I like the tones of the lines of the Palace and how this photograph focuses my attention on stately architectural shapes of the windows and the statuary lining the roof. This image works well in black and white. I would like to see more detail in the statuary. The fountain and building in the background distract my attention from what I see as the main subject, the Palace, so I tried some cropping and have attached an example.

I found the most interesting feature of this image to be the reflection of the Alhambra-style building across the street in the window. To me, the decisive moment was not quite captured, as the face of the other woman sitting against the storefront is buried in the side of the walking woman. |

As others suggested, we work with what we have in front of us. The composition has several distraction which would be difficult to overcome. I feel that the image would be improved by reducing the exposure. The white outline on the wings indicates the the image was over-sharpened. I would like to see less sharpening. |

To me, the purely graphical nature of this image grabs my interest. Before I read the description of the subject, the image suggested to me a hornets nest, lava rock, and decaying wood with woodpecker holes. I feel that the exposure is good and it provides a wide tonal range. |

I like the clear compelling story of the harvest and impending storm. I find my eyes lingering on the interesting patterns of the crop rows and bales. I would have liked to see a lighter touch on the dark tones of the clouds, especially on the left side. |

I agree that the crop from the "Original 2" image is an improvement. I enjoy the strong sense of movement that I get from the lines in the leaves and even the highlight from the leaf jutting in from the left adds to that movement. I like the exposure, which I feel is well done. A circular polarizer may have helped reduced the bright reflections from the yellow center of the orchid. |
