Thanks for all the helpful comments-much appreciated.
Stan, yes I was using a PL & a 6 stop ND filter combined-I needed that to capture the swirls. The time of day was about 8am on a cloudy morning. I'll take a look at why the image seems a bit soft. I'm glad you pointed this out

HI Adi,
I think this is a terrific image and shows a great use of both selective focus and slow shutter speed. When I see the sheep in focus it's almost as if they are asking `You want ME to squeeze in THERE?). Well done!

Hi Jay,
A wonderful country fair image. I like the vibrant color and that you `caught' the flame stick mid air. My only suggestion is to see what the image looks like if the `Circus ' sign was cropped out...alternatively from a photojournalism perspective you might want to leave the sign in and crop from the left to further emphasize Dexter & the sign.

Hi Mel,
I think this is a unique and thought provoking image. if I didn't know this was your son I might ask `why the focus on this fellow? what makes him special?' The depth of field fall off on the rest of the graduates is a great technique to emphasize the subject--pretty amazing you were able to get him that sharp at 300mm (and I assume handheld). You may want to try a variety of different crops to see which tells your story best. Well done! Norm |

Hi Stan,
I think this is a wonderful night seascape. You've captured the sunset just at the right time. I also like your using a fast shutter to stop the wave action--to me at least it gives a `you are there' feeling. My only suggestion would be to see how the image looks if you lighten the shadows a bit...especially at the base of both rocks.

Harriet, I think this is the beginning of a great still life . I like that the tomatoes are all on the stem...giving a sense of `just harvested'. I also like the use of monochrome...it really emphasizes the shape of these tomatoes. Per Jay's comment you may want to try this with an increased depth of field--the front center tomato seems a bit `fuzzy'. Since this is a still life it should be easy enough to use a tripod and dial down the shutter speed and increase the f-stop. Also, placing the veggies on something like black velvet or some other dark non reflective surface may help the image `pop' more.

Hi John,
The reflection really makes this image pop...well done. My only suggestion would be to see how the image looks if you darken the car (green color).
