Hi Barbara,
This I think is a wonderful environmental portrait! the exposure and color are right on. My only suggestion is to, in the future try shooting with a larger aperture such as f8 or even F6.3-5.6...this would still show the backyard as background but selective focus on your brother-in -law and the dog might make the image even `punchier'.

Hi Marian,
Welcome to the group.
This, I think is an outstanding image in terms of composition and exposure.
The only suggestion I have is perhaps in the future to try larger apertures as well - such as f11,f8 & f5.6--and see the effect...i wonder if the blue flowers might even add more impact (?) if they weren't as in focus as the yellow flower --in essence competing for the viewer's attention>

Hi Marcela,
I really like the monochrome treatment of this image--it does a wonderful job of emphasizing the couple. And since they are the subject of your story I agree that cropping is in order. I would crop to the right of the rock in the water and on land & also eliminate the foliage on land and see how that looks. You did a wonderful job of capturing the couple's reflection...very tough to do!

Hi Stan,
I really like the color and exposure in this image. It is a beautiful stream and a lovely setting for the wedding.
However, I wonder if you considered taking the couple out and let this stand as a pure nature image? I ask this because, at least for me, I find myself straining to see the couple & wanting them bigger...I also find their white garb distracting in an otherwise pristine scene. Also, did you consider a crop which might eliminate the couple (that is virtually!<g>)
...What I always like about your images is that you are able to create wonderful shots on the fly!

Hi Harriet,
It's difficult I have found, to do good animal portraits and even more difficult when the subject is very dark toned-so kudos for the effort!. I think however you did a great job capturing Archie's character through his eyes.Although I am not a big fan of charcoal I can see why you used it. You may also want to explore other black & white treatments with software such as Nik Silver Efex Pro & experiment with features such as high structure etc..
...Have fun with Archie!

Hi John, You did a good job with the composition of the image as well as the exposure. My suggestions are to perhaps crop out the water -I find the reflections distracting and to crop out a bit more of the sand to the right. This should give more emphasis to the bird.
