Thanks Stan! Getting the image did take a lot of shots & short bursts were indeed the best way to do this. Also, since I live near the nature preserve I was going out there most mornings timed to approximately when the Humming Bird usually showed up…and then it was a matter of waiting in then area I knew it preferred. This is not very high tech but it was fun & I did learn something about the behavior of these fascinating birds! |

Hi Barbara, The color & exposure in this image are both very good. To me at least the most interesting part of the image are the rocks & tree reflection in the upper half. I would consider cropping out the part of the photo near the bottom with the leaves. You might also want to experiment with the highlight slider to see if you could tone down the reflection on the rocks. Also, since you are working with a 24-120 you might want to zoom all the way to 120 & have a more detailed image of the rocks.

Hi Marcela,
This is a beautiful image of a beautiful bird. The composition, to me, is just right with the bird looking off into the distance.
My main suggestions are as follows: 1. experiment with an f stop of f8 & f5.6--this could help with sharpness in the subject but you might still get the bokeh in the background. 2. Try a slower shutter speed that might allow a lower iso--the bird is not moving so you may not need a shutter of 1/250;3. consider selectively enhancing the blue on the bird's crown; 4.See if you may be able to clone out the dead leaf <?> under the bird's right claw.

Hi Stan, I think this is a wonderful image of the Falls. The part you chose to emphasize illustrates both their beauty & power. The exposure is right on--especially impressive for a long exposure hand held, you must have very steady hands! The foliage in the background is to me just the right shade of green. The viewer understands that the falls are part of a larger eco-system yet the composition-- and including the person on the bridge for scale-- do a great job of communicating that the falls are `king'here! Well done! |

Hi Harriet,
The subject matter & the exposure here are all spot on.The image I think shows Phil's personality.
My main suggestions are as follows: 1. crop out the black `locks' <?> on the left & the leaves on the bottom right 2.While some might argue that the pane crossing Phil's nose is distracting I like it because I think it creates more interest for the viewer. But I don't think the bottom of the pane - with leaves to the left add anything.3. You may also want to darken the blanket <?> Phil is sitting on.

Hi John,
Your composition here I think is excellent with the line & color of the signal box drawing the viewer in.I also like the detail on the wood on top. My main suggestion would be to see if the light coming in through the window could be toned down (perhaps reducing White & or Highlights in your photo editor?). Overall an intriguing image.
