Hi Marcela, yes I've had that issue with sky replacement as well.We both seem to be in the same boat as I have difficulty doing selections in PS as well.

Hi Marcela,
Thanks for your kind comments! And thanks for helping me find an error in the f stop I listed.
Concerning the blurred background & F16. I entered the incorrect f stop -it was actually F8. Usually I don't photograph at f16 so when I reviewed my notes I realized the f stop was actually F8.The green background was actually far away from the flower so that also helps to explain the blur. The garden was tiered & the day lily was on the last tier before opening up to foliage & a wooded area further back. Also, Topaz glow was responsible for some of the blur effect. I didn't use any dedicated noise reduction software-I find that it sometimes softens the image too much. Instead I did some very basic sharpening in Adobe Camera Raw. Also, Adobe's own noise reduction I find can work well. And since the image filled most of the frame cropping was minimal <extreme cropping can accentuate noise>. |

Hi Barbara, This is a wonderful environmental portrait of the bunny. It looks like he is contemplating taking his next meal from the foliage at left! My own preference would not be to darken the background. Instead, next time you have an opportunity for a shot like this you might want to open up your aperture to f8 or even f5.6. Using F16 here creates sharpness in areas--such as the background that you may not want to emphasize. Also, if you open up the aperture you may be able to shoot at a lower ISO giving you even more opportunities for noise free processing. Norm |

Hi Marcela,
This is a terrific image! Well done! From experience I know bluebirds are tough to photograph. You did a great job with the sharpness of the image and the color of the bird. I also wonder if a darker background might make the bird `pop' even more? `Just for fun you might want to take a look at Photo Shops's `sky replacement' edit and see if that enhances the shot.

Great image Stan! The detail in the eyes and the feathers are great.
A suggestion:depending on whether this is to entered in competition as a Nature image or not had you given consideration to cloning out or using the healing brush (or other PS technique) to eliminate the branch coming up from the lower left of the image?...To me at least it's a bit distracting.

Hi Harriet, A great portrait of Natasha. Per Barbara's comment about darkening the background you may also want to consider opening your aperture a bit to F5.6 or even F4 to throw the background out of focus and concentrate the viewer's attention on Natasha.

Hi John, A wonderful image. My only very minor suggestions for possible improvements are the following: 1. see how the image looks with less foreground in front of the shed-I'm not sure if that foreground adds much to the image; and 2. see how the image looks with the highlights in the clouds (upper right) toned down...I find that those highlights tend to draw me away from the rest of the image.
