Thanks for all the very helpful comments for what I find to be a big challenge: getting high quality travel photos when you are only in a location briefly. This being said your points make me see what I can do differently in the future. Much appreciated!

Tracy, Nice effort! It is difficult to do a still life & keep everything tack sharp. You may want to Google Charles Batchelder <he's an amateur in Connecticut who often speaks on still life photography> & see his You Tube Video on focus stacking.
Also, had you considered simply taking a photo of the biscotti and make them look mouth watering by adding some jelly or jam for more texture? You may not even need the coffee cup...Also, if you had an available window and put the camera on a tripod you might be able to do this without a flash. |

Carroll, Great job--I especially like the blurred background. But per Stan's comments it might be worth seeing if you can do something about the bottom left bud. |

Stan, Great travel image! I especially like the bit of `drama' in the clouds...My only suggestion would have been to possibly wait until the fellow facing forward by the fountain either left or turned around--I find it a bit distracting...But these are things that are tough to deal with when traveling. |

Ginger, Great I-phone photo. I agree with Stan--my only suggestion is to try to crop the right hand side a bit more. Having the image directed to those 4 folks right next to the glass would make the image pop even more. |

John, a wonderful job on a challenging subject...I really like the grittiness...Also, had you thought about trying it as a pure B&W? |
