I've contacted the photographer with whom I traveled to Costa Rica in 2017 and took this hummingbird image. He directed me to a website on Costa Rican hummingbirds. I was able to go to a selction of "hummers" found in the Monteverde Forest Reserve. Using the white feathers on the tail, I think I have found the species. I think it may be a Violet Sabrewing. I'm attaching a screenshot from the website. What do you think?

Isaac, I am impressed that you knew this was a dolphin carcass!!
The muted colors are very effective and express the mood of this location. Thanks for adding image 2 to show another view of the dinner.
Your developed image has a very effect triangle between the polar bears and the carcass!
I would love to see such sites when travel returns.

Adrian, in comparing your original to the final image, I can areciate your decision to give the tree dominance over the animals. So often we think the animals need to be the subject. In this case you developed a beautiful environmental image in a very special location. Congratulations. |

Marie, I am enjoying the "softness" of this image. I think the business is not such a drawback when viewing it in this way. Sometimes I think that I spend too much time looking for a
"subject." I appreciate the mood of this image. |

Walt, I appreciate that all of your processing is not visible in this super image! It speaks well of your skill, both to capture and process such a magnificent image. |

Randy, I wonder what he is thinking. His thoughts seem ominous!
It is effective to have him rising out of an abyss! |

Bruce, what a stunning image. I lived for a number of years near the coast in Oregon and I remember the wonderful surf. I don't think I ever "hit it" at such a perfect moment.
Congratulations. From my Pandemic living room, I envy your access to such a beautiful site. |

Is this better? I lowered the brightness of brightest pixels via a luminosity selection. |

I checked the histogram of the file and there aren't any pixels overexposing. Might it be related to the process of uploading and viewing via the Internet? |

The background was created by using a mandala technique where the image is rotated around 360 degrees. The shutter speed on the hummingbird was 1,000/sec. I'll see if I can bring down the bright spot. |
