I've enjoyed seeing other people's interpretations of the scene. Thanks for all of your comments.

At the time I took this photo, I felt the balanced rock to be of equal importance with the sun on the mountains. Of course, the gift of the cloud added impact. I had considered opening up some of the foreground but I found it took too much away from the impact of the background and clouds.
Thanks for all your comments. |

I'll attach a copy with cloud sculpting done in Viveza2. |

I, too, like the color and texture of the background. It suggests the scene you describe. It reminds me of a time when my toddler would hide behind me when in public...a universal response. |

Adrian, I am especially moved by the color of this image. It creates a sunset mood. I have been collecting images from local photographers that fit the topic "Photos that Smile." I then assemble them (with photographer credit) into a video slideshow. What a good candidate this would be. I love it. |

I, too, like the B&W conversion. Since you have the Nik collection, have you tried going into Viveza2 and putting a control point in the clouds? I then add structure to the clouds. Alt/option click on the control point will allow you to drag a copy to the other side of the image.
I believe it is Sean Bagshaw who calls this "cloud sculpting." |

What effective depth of field! It I amazing that you did this at f6.3. That narrow depth of field supports the details in the bird which are beautifully sharp. |

The sharpness of his eyes really makes this image! I also appreciate the soft colors in the background.
I don't know whether this owl is cute in reality but it sure is in this image. |

Just for correctness...this a sunset image. If you feel able to carry out your idea, download the image and give it a try. I'd enjoy seeing the effect. It's a good idea.
On 2nd thought, the upper reaches of the cloud are touched. Would this give the wrong angle for the tip of the rock to get lit? |
