I think this is an interesting image with lots of detail. The detail on the bridge improves as I zoom in, which leads me to wonder if a bit of cropping (mainly of the foreground) would balance the picture more and enhance the detail visible? |

Thanks, Stan. I feel a bit like I'm cheating as I've taken similar photos many times before, and as I have more time for model engineering these days, my interest in steam locos is only increasing! |

The wide-angle lens has exaggerated the perspective of the building, making it quite dramatic.
I wonder if a slight darkening, or increased contrast, might clarify the details? |

I think this is a dramatic contre-jour shot. The brightest bit is cleverly hidden behind the vegetation that has been caught on the net. Well seen and composed. |

Happy Holidays to you too!
I like the idea, with a composite border and its reflection below. |

There's a feel of something greater than reality here, for me. The depth of field and perspective, plus the super face detail, make it jump out of the picture for me.
I think it's a great shot, except that I don't understand or like what I can only describe as mid-range blur under the whiskers on the left. The presence of sharp features further away on the extreme left confuses me. |

Nice shot, John. Was this its original "colour", or did you convert to mono? |

Welcome to our group, Jeff! We'd be really pleased to see more images like this, it's super.
I love the detail and sharpness of the insect, and the restful composition and colours. The background was far away, giving a lovely blur to emphasis the insect.
Personally, I would crop a bit more, equally on all sides, to bring out the detail even more. |

No. alas it didn't. I was with a party and had had a couple of goes to get the shot I wanted, but this was the best. I was holding the camera out at arm's length over a rope barrier, and didn't want to risk the wrath of the room "custodian" (a volunteer to help the visitors) by stepping over it. These people pounce on visitors doing that! |

Yes, I think the focus is fine. The exposure seems to be OK, but you don't mention if the original was RAW or jpg. If not RAW, I encourage you to ALWAYS capture in RAW. At this ISO, you'll get 4 stops (or more), more than jpg. The blown out parts would be easily recovered. I love HDR, but as with all image merging, the subject must be still for it to work. Capturing it in one shot is often best and easiest.
As it stands, the yellow spadix doesn't grab my attention. Lightening it in post should give it more prominence. |

A nice photo, I don't think I've seen one still before. An interestingly shaped abdomen.
I like the picture, super detail and good exposure, but agree that a crop would make the subject much clearer whilst still retaining the context. The background is nice, although I'd tone down the light part, top right of the stem. |
