I like the way the light flower stands out from the dark background, and yes, the stems add to the picture for me. But I wonder if your comment "....bright orange and the most noticeable part of the flower" suggests that it would have been better in colour? |

Fascinating! A dramatic picture. At first I thought this picture had been spoiled by the lack of sharpness in the foreground, but after closer inspection I think it's just the texture of the foam as the water on the front right is sharper. I wonder if there's a bit too much foam in the picture? Perhaps a crop at the bottom would give more prominence to the pier? Also lightening the pier a little? - it has all but disappeared on the right. |

I like the repeating patterns, and the great textures in the ropes. Good sharpness and depth of field for f2 as well, but I guess the TG-6 has a small focal length. Well seen and framed. |

A nice picture, Pat. The details in the sepal and the stem are super. Nice background, too. As usual I would look for brighter areas, especially at the edges, and in this case I would darken down the bottom left of the picture.
The flower looks less sharp at the front. I find I sometimes fail to take the first picture of the bracket with the focus close enough to definitely get the closest part sharp. I wonder if that happened here. But I also sometimes find that yellow flowers in the sunshine look less clear than I would like, anyway. But the right hand petals are fine, so I suspect it the first explanation. |

Thanks, Cheryl. Yes, I did notice that the sharpness of the flower is a bit distracting. I usually do my sharpening in the RAW module of Affinity, and as far as I know, I can't mask there to selectively sharpen. Perhaps I should have broken my habit and sharpened in the Photo persona. I'll give it a try!
Actually I've found that these are sharp and prominent in the dng file that Helicon produces. So I've retouched here in Affinity - any better?
As a matter of interest, whilst doing this, I found (yet again) a very small insect (an aphid?) hiding in the picture. Way smaller than the bee. See it? |

How about a title "Brazilian Agate - at the edge of Brazil"?
I love the detail in crystals and rocks. The colours and textures here are very interesting to me. I notice that the sharpness drops off at the side despite f22. Well done for keeping the camera parallel to the surface, as that is all nice and sharp.
A polarising filter might have helped the colours and avoid any reflections, the only way is to try it! |

That's an interesting subject. I've no idea how big it is, presuming it's fairly small. The lighting makes the sides rather dull, it looks to me like the light was close to the camera. |

Ace shooting, Mike! I'm really jealous of this photo.
You didn't quote the shutter speed, I'd be interested as the wings are blurry, but the body is pin sharp, so I'm imagining it's motion blur. Perfect, just like we try to get blurred propellers on an aircraft in flight. |

I find flowers of this type, looking like a starburst, very tempting to photograph. Here I think you've done very well as it's not confusing to look at. I think this is the stigma, with petals in the background.
Smartphones do this so well, good sharpness despite macro magnification and f2. I presume the 13mm focal length is a full-frame equivalent? Do you think it did a focus stack? A weakness of phones at the moment, in my view, is that they don't make it clear what has gone on inside the phone. |

Yes, it's a lovely picture of a beautiful flower.
The stacking has worked very well, although I'm surprised that there's softness at the back given it has taken a bracket of 100 images. I presume you can alter the step length in your camera? I can in my Olympus, and if it gets to "infinity" then it stops taking pictures, which makes sense. I guess the Canon must be similar, and it hasn't reached infinity, so you've got all 100 requested frames. |
