64 Jun 25 Comment I like the feeling of depth here, with lots of detail to look at. I think I'd have included the right side of the chair which has been clipped off, if possible.

64 Jun 25 Comment I think this is a pleasant seascape, with good composition. I can't say I fancy swimming in the closer part of your pool, though!

I like the clarity and contrast, and the action of the flowing water, making for a very punchy picture.

64 Jun 25 Comment Maybe so, but it doesn't detract from the attraction of this photo, I think. I love the depth and the background of buildings.

I don't know Venice well, but that looks like St Mark's Square over there, and the Basilica. Pity the tower is behind a mooring post. I always try to remember to take several exposures of scenes from slightly different angles - not that I always remember, of course.

64 Jun 25 Comment Whilst this isn't the most impressive stone arched bridge I've seen, you've made a good photo of it I think. I like the slight diagonal perspective, and the leading line of the road and fence.

I've had a little play with the image in Affinity, and have increased the clarity in the sky and lightened the bridge and surrounding shadows a little. What do you think about the change?

95 Jun 25 Comment An interesting picture, which I agree would improve from a bit more room to breath.

I'm going on about brightness a bit this month, and I think this image improves with brightening. Here I show the histogram in Affinity for this image - it's heavily to the left, which means the image is dark overall.

95 Jun 25 Comment Carol, have you updated the firmware on your OM-1? I've had no focus problems with mine. 60mm or 90mm macro lens?

The butterfly looks a little soft to me. I nearly always focus bracket, even outdoors hand held, just to get the shot with the best focus even if I don't stack. If the camera will produce a stack, you know it was fairly well aligned, but if it doesn't, the bracketted photos are still there and you can delete the rejected images in post. I normally don't let it stack in camera, and Helicon does a better job anyway. Plus the camera takes a bit of time to do the processing, and the subject might have fluttered by by then!

95 Jun 25 Comment Yes, a striking image. I like the sharpness and contrast in the outer areas.

In the centre, I think the punch has been lost as the background there is much lighter. I've taken a screen shot into Affinity, selected the central region roughly, then increased the contrast and decreased the brightness, to get the attached. Any better?

95 Jun 25 Comment I think this is a very original and interesting picture. Technically, I think it's spot on, super.

Darkening the bottom left corner is something I'd do. I don't know why you struggled with this. I took a screen shot into Affinity and used the clone tool, taking samples from the darker red area and pasting them on top of the lighter area. Quick and easy. See attached, I'm happy to explain more if you wish.

95 Jun 25 Comment I like to see that you are pushing that 1:1. Whilst I often say that achieving 1:1 and more is not necessary here, it's like doing exercises - important for personal development.

The fact that most macro lenses only just reach 1:1 is an issue I usually have with manufacturers, it's good that you can get to 1.4x. But doing it just shows the issues you have found - sometimes it's difficult for the viewer to understand the picture. I think this is why so many macro photographers go for taking pictures of bugs.

Also, yes, and you get very close physically to your subject. I have an OM 30mm macro which takes photos with an interesting perspective at up to 1.25x - but boy, you have to get very close!

95 Jun 25 Comment Super, well done. It has a Don Komarechka feel to it.

The hairs on the left are losing out a little due to their lighter background. I'd also lose a little brightness from the top edge (crop or darken). I suspect it's one of those pictures that we take and don't see these little issues in the viewfinder, we only see them on the computer. It might be easier to take it again to get slightly different results - that's often much easier and more enlightening than relying on software, I find.
