Thank you for the clarification. I see your point and will try to correct it. |

Thank you for your comments, Michael. I didn't quite catch what you ment by lighter tones on the ridge lines. I have already submitted it to a European competition, so just have to see what the verdict will be. |

Nice composition with the leading line from creek. The sky didn't add to the photo, so I think you can crop it about one third. Good sharpness from foreground to background, this is the benefit of carrying a tripod. |

It is a great motive and it is well composed. I understand that you have great limitation in the dynamic range when shooting with a mobile phone, so I think you have got the best out of it under the circumstances. |

A moody and well composed image. It pays to get up in the morning. I liked the light in the window in the house which gave a balance in the picture. To me the whole picture is slightly underexposed. May be you also cold have lighten up some parts in the foreground to make it more interesting. I also think it would been improved by cropping from the top almost down to the antenna on the tower. |

I really liked the swirly patterns in the water. I think I would toned down the HDR effect in the background as it took some of the attention from the main object which is the pond. May be it could be cropped a bit at top and bottom and darkened the foreground slightly. If I shall be really picky, the green area to the right of the fountain could also been darkened a bit.

Hi Alicia,
A good start in our group. I agree with Bill that it is a good winter scene, but I think there are too many details. I have made a cropped version to show what I mean. In addition, I have lightened some spots here and there to boost it up a little. What do you think? |

I think you have succeeded well with this picture; it has a good depth of field even if you have used a long lens and the camera position gives the leading lines and makes an order in the picture.
The shadows adds to the drama in the picture. You have also a good balance between black and white.
Well done, Pamela! |

I like the composition, but I agree with Pamela in darkening the foreground. There is something strange with the sky, the clouds are not as well defined in the B&W version and it seems to have some noise, even if it is shot at ISO 200. I don't know how much you have sharpened it, but that can create noise. If that is the case, masking the sharpening to 50% or so might done the trick. |

Before I comment anything else, I want to tell that I almost stepped on one of these in the dark when I was on Sri Lanka a couple of months ago.
I took a picture in about the same angle as you with mobile phone, but I regret I didn't go closer and took it from the front. I don't know how they attack, so may be it was not a good idea.
It is a great shot, sharp and with good texture, but the problem is that the plank of wood has a similar texture as the scorpion so it doesn't stand out like it should. Since moving it is not an option, I think the only way would be to mask it out and make the plank darker. |
