Thank you, Michael, I agree with your comment about the sky. I think I will also darken the sea slightly. |

A lot of wonderful colors here, Richard. Liked the complimentary colors in the horizon. This together with the clear reflections and the snow scattered around raised it to a high level picture. |

A wonderful HDR shot. Well composed with details out to the edges. Liked the two red lights at the top. Had some discussions with myself if I liked the dominating street light. I think it works well both with and without. The light at the midle right I think I would removed, a small detail though. |

A strong composition with leading lines into the schooner. Nice diagonal and vertical lines. Like the soft evening light mood.
Well done,Hattie! |

Well composed with the boat as the main attraction. I think I would removed the rope at the middle of the boat even if you could define I as a leading line into the subject. |

A well done autumn image. Nice framing with the branches and the tree. If I should suggest any improvement, it would be to darken the sky slightly as it is competing with the beautiful leaves. |

You have captured this image very well, Sibani. You are lucky who have such wild life at your terrace! The expressions of both the mother who is somewhat on guard and the child who is just happy being with its mother is taken at the decisive moment.
My suggestion for improvement is to crop such that the objects are on one side and not in the midle. Actually, I think both to the left and to the right would work. The classic teaching is that the subject should look into the picture, but often it make an image more interesting if it looks out of the picture. According to composing theory it is not good to cut extremities at their tips, so you should either had more room at the lower part of the picture or cropped it higer up. I have, however, seen professional pictures cropped just like this, so this just an opinion. There is a lot of texture in the hairs on the bodies so I think it could be more enhanced by adding some clarity or darken It slightly. This applies in particular to the foreheads of both of them and the back of the little one. This is all details, all in all it is a great picture! |

The starting point was what we can call an educated guess based on earlier similar shots and from there it was try and err. The light was changing continuously as the sun was about to rise. After I had found my spot I did not touch the camera and took bracketed shots every 5 minutes or so. |

Hi David, the workshop and the trip was just fantastic and I can really recommend a visit there. Your questions are very valid and I am happy to answer; It is a bracketed shot with 1,5 f stops over and under plus the normal exposure. I used the overexposed one to light up the arch. I started in almost complete dark and kept going until the sun came up. This is one of the last shots. Everything is done in manual mode. If there is anything else you or someone else would like to know, I am more than delighted to answer. |

Well, if you crop to let us say 1/10 of the original, it means you have 1/10 of the pixels left. It means less details. Regarding ISO, if you magnify any picture 2 times or more, you will see a difference when ISO is increased even using noise reduction. ISO 1000 is not a high number in itself, but what I tried to say was that it adds to the negative side when having a low resolution picture as starting point. This effect is particularly evident in dark areas like the legs of the couple.
My intention with mentioning cropping and use of ISO was to share my own experiences and not expressing harsh criticism.

I love the grey tones and I am glad you didn't fall for the temptation to rise the contrast and clarity. Even if I haven't seen the histogram, it looks like it has the whole specter from black to white which makes it interesting and pleasant for the eye.
Thank you for sharing the tips about black background.

A nice light on the woman and the hair of the man. It also portrays a relaxed atmosphere on a holiday trip.
A problem when cropping so severely as you have done here is that a lot of details get lost, together with high ISO it comes even more apparent. |

Nice depth of field by luminance in this image. The angle of light enhances the details of the building. Interesting to get some of the interior visible as well.
My only pick is that I would removed or toned down the letters in the front.
Good work, Megan!

You have achieved a surrealistic touch over this image. It gives certainly a feeling of motion, but the photographer contradicts the motion blur.
As an B&W photo it has the full dynamic range from black to white with nice gray scales in between. Good sharpness where it is ment to be. Good eye contact with the driver. |
