Sophia, this is a wonderful subject for a low?key study. I'd suggest reducing the amount of darkening applied to the hair along the side of her face, and at the same time revealing a bit more of her neck so the head doesn't appear visually disconnected from the body. Maintaining subtle separation in those areas will help preserve a natural contour while still keeping the overall low?key aesthetic. |

Mark, if possible, consider creating a duplicate of your original capture before beginning any processing and use that untouched copy as the basis for your edits. Working from a processed JPEG-especially one that has already been resized or compressed-can limit your ability to evaluate micro?contrast, edge acuity, and fine surface texture. At the current resolution, it's difficult to assess the subtle tonal transitions and detail within the subject's structure.
That said, the form and lighting of your subject are well?suited to a black?and?white treatment, particularly if you can start from a higher?bit?depth source file where tonal adjustments won't compromise detail retention.

Lovely image, Pete. Your final version is sharp and well?exposed, and the bokeh complements the subject's colors beautifully. I don't have any recommendations-enjoy this year's activity. |

Natalia, this is a lovely image and would work beautifully as a high?key interpretation. I experimented with your file, but the JPEG version was too blown out along the edges of the seed pod to achieve the look I was aiming for. If your original is in raw format, you may be able to create a high?key version without losing detail in the pod's feathers. If your intended presentation allows, I'd also suggest cloning out the dark horizontal branch in the background. |

Suzanne, I've always been fond of high?key portraits. I made a few additional adjustments to your image by isolating the background and increasing its brightness to reduce the remaining shadow areas while still maintaining a slight shadow area around the base of the musician and the instrument. I then selected the subject and applied a separate brightness adjustment to enhance the overall high-key effect |
