Thanks Diana; I did look at the B/W conversion image. |

Anne,
Your description helped me understand what the image was showing. This might be a case where a wider field of view would help provide more of the story - I don't know if that would work without seeing the original. Zoo images sometimes are difficult because of the artificial and distracting backgrounds. I think shutter speeds in some cameras can be divisions of the whole f stop settings. If possible when taking images of animals, force the camera to spot focus on the eyes or face. |

Diana,
My white balance sometimes mysteriously gets changed and that can take a while to figure out why the images are looking different.
I like your crop - good detail and especially the very important eye.
Those halos can appear with bright backgrounds and certain types of post processing effects. There are many discussions of this on the internet; Matt Kloskowski might be a good resource. |

Erin,
B&W for sure. I like the dark background against the light water beads on the web. It looks like a necklace. |

Agreed; lighten the right side of the face; maybe add a vignette. |

I might be able to remove that branch but then I would need to replace the missing feathers. Too much work, if possible. |

Thanks for the reminder Pierre. I hopefully assume that a bird on a perch will sit still but of course that's not always, or even usually, the case so a higher shutter speed makes sense. |

Diane,
The image is quite small so not sure what happened; maybe a large crop? I think it would be better to include the petals on the bottom which were cut-off, if possible. I do like the white against the dark background. |

Jacob,
Surprizingly clear image for a phone pic. I agree with Mervyn - let's see some pics with that new camera. |

Cindy,
I like the visual arc from the head to back to the coiled tail. Quite an interesting animal. Agree with Mervyn on the edits. |

Pierre,
I find the contrast between the lime green soft background and the bright yellow/orange of the Oriole to be quite striking. |

Mervyn,
Normally having foreground which occludes the subject is a disadvantage but in this case I think the grass is sparse enough that it provides a see-though screen which adds a sense of context and cover. The soft lighting on the lion's face is quite nice too and the perspective of the lion on the high ground is excellent. I think this is a very nice image. |

Thanks Mervin. You're right about the perspective; pretty much looking straight up. |
