Thanks for your comments Erin. A little bit of saturation can have a big effect for sure. |

Yes, using a brush in Lightroom to add local exposure. Other software, including Photoshop, would have similar capability. |

Kyle,
I think you picked a good image and your edits generally work well. I particularly like the side lighting and the highlighted barrel cactus along the walkway. The walkway itself provides a pleasing curved leading line moving the eye from front to back.
I think I tend to consistently underexpose my images. Therefore, your edited version looks a bit too bright to me but I think many others would say the exposure is just fine. In the original image the highlighting of the cactus is quite striking but in your edited version it is less obvious because of the increased brightness/contrast overall. Rather than increasing the overall brightness I think I would have just opened up the shadows using the shadow slider and brush where needed. See attached. I tried to make the sky more blue but that also made the leaves too blue so I left that alone. In your edited version your sky looks better with more detail. When I want to sharpen an image I usually use Topaz sharpen but I don't see any problems with sharpness in your photo. |

In LR you can zoom in, maybe 1X. But don't zoom in too much since everything will appear out of focus if you start pixel peeking. |

Anne,
I like the action portrayed by the two birds in flight. A longer lens might have helped but the main issue is that your shutter speed was too low (slow) for birds in flight; especially these that are not particularly large. Next time set you shutter speed to at least 1/1500 or faster. I don't know which fstop was selected but maybe a larger fstop would have helped blur the structures in the background more. Right now, they are out of focus but not enough. In PS I tried to clone those buildings out (see attached). I also sharpened the image to help remove the motion blur. |

Rita,
The lines and reflections and color make this an interesting architectural image. Your editing definitely improves the image. I particularly like the left center building with the glass structure behind. I might have walked a bit closer and moved to the right side of the street to see if I could get an image with more of that building in it. Of course, if you get too close then you start to get an image where the lines and buildings start looking distorted. Maybe a bit like the attached without the better vantage point. |

Thanks for your comments Diana. There are many ways this image could have been cropped and I tried several. The one I ended up with isn't necessarily the "best" but it did allow me to emphasize the reflections and pattern which I thought were most interesting. The color is enhanced a bit but one has to be careful to not overdo those type of adjustments. I didn't see the human figure but I do now. |

Diana,
I like this image and composition. She has a very interesting face. You captured the maker focusing on her brazing and creation. I like that the background shows some of her metal art. Your edits brought more attention to her face and work and the crop eliminated a major distraction and glare. Using a LR brush or radial gradient, I might lighten her face and front a tiny bit more and I might use a vignette to darken the background a bit.

BTY, I know this image is a bit "different" from what is usually submitted to our group and may be more difficult to evaluate since it is largely abstract. |

Jacob,
I like that every part of the bird is clearly in focus. I don't think the lighter spots on the head are distracting at all. I might crop in from the right and left so from the left a bit more. |

Cindy,
The orchid is lovely and the clarity, vibrant colors, and soft background make for a lovely flower image. I especially like the bit of red contrast inside the flower. The crop obviously was needed and you had sufficient depth of field and resolution to make it work well. |

Could just darken the background a bit more. |

Mervyn,
You caught the paired action of these two (siblings?) well. I like the phased overlap that allows the heads of both to be seen clearly. With the fast shutter speed you were able to capture the presumed fast action without blur. Considering the high ISO, the noise reduction and sharpening works well. |

Pierre,
The eyes, face, and beak are the center of attention. I might crop in on this area if the resolution is sufficient. And I wish the background has more bokeh but I see your lens was probably at is max. aperture. |

Jaswant,
I like the clarity and detail of this image (other than the tail which is relatively minor in this image). The branch is a nice leading line moving the eye up to the wren. The wren has greater interest than the usual bird on a stick because of the material in its mouth. The muted green background is lovely. |

Diane,
The subject is clear and detailed and I like the profile view. That's looks like a pretty large lizard. Are you located in FL?
I actually prefer the original a bit more. Although the background is a bit busy in the original, it is not as bright as the edited version. Also, truncating the tail in the edited version leaves me wondering (about the tail). |
