60 Dec 23 Reply You can place a filter on the lens. A good one costs about $100. But it is like placing an ND filter on the lens since it is quite dark. And there are other issues with the filter but it may be a good way to dip into the IR waters without taking the plunge of having to have another camera. 60 Dec 23 Comment Rita,
Nice composition and visual impact but no, the focus is not sharp. Damon is probably right - you can't get very close to the subject with that camera/lens.

60 Dec 23 Comment Blair,
I like this architectural composition with its strong vertical and diagonal lines and bold contrast. The framing looks a bit tilted off of the vertical but that's an easy fix in post.

60 Dec 23 Reply Here are a couple of images of mushrooms growing on a decaying tree on our property. I don't think any of my mushroom images are particularly compelling but I like these. Dec 7th
60 Dec 23 Reply Damon,
Over the years I have seen some IR images that were intriguing and lovely but I never investigated it much until this summer when I took a workshop from a local photographer who exclusively produces IR images. At first I though I might convert a film camera I have (AE1) but obtaining and developing film looked like a major hassle. At about the same time, a fellow photographer and friend got a mirrorless camera converted and began producing images. So I purchased a used Sony A7R2 since I use a Sony camera and lenses. I got the camera converted after thinking a bit about what filter I wanted. I selected a "super color" (590 mm) filter and am now trying to figure out the post processing and experimenting with various images.

60 Dec 23 Comment Damon,
This image is certainly a good example of shallow DOF. I don't find the subject or composition particularly compelling but maybe I just don't get too excited by mushrooms (although I have taken a number of images of fungi). And getting down low is becoming too difficult for me so you did good on that.

60 Dec 23 Comment Barbara,
This is a pleasing image with the strong foreground color, muted background, and soft light of the lightboxes.

60 Dec 23 Comment Anne,
Posteriors of most animals usually aren't very appealing but this one has a strong visual focal point - the symmetrical pattern of the fur/skin coming together around the tail. I find that the fence and foliage detracts from that visual center. So I like the cropped image better.

69 Dec 23 Comment Jacob,
I like the perspective and clear focus on the eye. There is lots going on in the image with the crossing limbs and busy background but I think it works pretty well for a bird on a stick composition. Your post processing makes sense to me but the entire image looks a bit washed out (over exposed and/or lack of contrast) to me.

69 Dec 23 Comment Jaswant,
Getting down close to eye level really makes this image powerful - lovely sharp image of this big cat in the wild.
