Anne,
Definitely a lovely ocean view. I understand trying to capture the mist and fog. In this situation, there is just enough to make the overall photo rather flat and not enough to make it truly foggy. This would have been a lovely photo on a clear day with a low sun but that wasn't what you got this day on your trip. |

Part of the jellyfish - there are like five separate organisms in that one Jellyfish, I think. |

Rita,
This is a classic Oregon beach sunset landscape photo. It is a good composition. I might lighten the dark side of the center rock (island) just a hair but not so much that it looks unnatural for this time of day. |

I thought you were going to tell us this was your beloved pet. Thank goodness it isn't because most dog owners think their dogs are lovely and deserve many photos (Note, I have had many dogs and loved them all). This is a nice doggy portrait -- it would have been more interesting if you could have caught the dog forcing a pheasant to fly up :). That might be a bit dangerous for the photographer though. |

Patrick,
Some much gear needed for both diving and underwater photography. I like the way the sunlight from above connects with bubbles which leads to the fish school. |

Tripods work well in much of bird photography but you need a gimble head. |

The backlighting on the horse is lovely. I agree with Pierre that keeping the foreground would provide additional interest and balance. |

I agree with Mervyn. A bit more darkening to the upper left (use a gradient or brush) and lower area under the flower would reduce those background highlights. The flower is lovely and sharp. |

Ken,
Nice image of these two big cats. My understanding is that Nature allows changes to tonality (dodging/burning). I am not aware of any restrictions or limits on the amount of change. |

Thanks Mervyn; I think there was more space in the original before cropping so that would be an easy fix. |

Christine,
This is a tough one for me because I often prefer bw images but in this case I like the color image more mostly because of the varied color in the rocks which is lost in bw. I also think the bw image is too dark. Waterfalls images can be challenging when you can't get the entire waterfall within the frame. This must have been quite amazing to see - where you in a boat? |

Pierre,
You were definitely reaching out to get this picture and you still captured a sharp image. Helps to have a sturdy tripod in this situation. I especially like the side lighting which accents the contours and fine feathers of the Egret. |

Marvyn,
I like it. The bird on the right presents a great profile for a silhouette. The sunset is lovely and it is nice that you captured the sun between the two birds so the birds act as a frame for the sun and the eye moves among the three objects. The soft clouds add interest to the background and mute the bright sun a bit. Even though there is a lot of negative space in this image it works well since it is balanced by the weight of the two birds, sun, and branches. |
