If it were double matted, that could serve a similar purpose. |

I am not sure it would make it better but -- I might try placing a boarder around the perimeter. I normally don't like it when boarders are placed on a photo but this one has lots of white background, which I know was intentional - the boarder "contains" it a bit. |

Rita,
Lovely well composed image of Alaska water, sky, mountains, and trees and bush. I agree that there are sections of the sky which are close to burned out - you can use a gradient to tone the sky down a bit but not too much otherwise those areas become an ugly gray. Best to bracket these high contrast scenes when on site if you use a tripod (and all landscape photographers always bring their tripods). |

Damon,
I like this image. The colors are vibrant, the side lighting provides shading and interest, the use of space is excellent, and the white background provides impactful contrast. A well arranged studio composition totally under your control. |

Damon,
Thanks for your comments. I think I have a tendency to underexpose and/or when the image gets exported from LR to a low res jpeg it may change a bit. I included the tree on the right to frame the image but I see how it might be a visual distraction too. It would be easy enough to crop more of it out of the frame. I have a calibration device (several actually) but have not used them for a while. The main reason I would calibrate monitors is if I had two monitors (I do) or if I were printing often (I don't). |

Thanks Pierre,
There are way too many jets in the sky these days. It almost has become the norm to see those contrails. Sometimes I might try to remove them. |

Don't know; the horizon looks level to me.

Geoff,
To crop in or not? I would see what the image looks like with just the three birds on the right. See attached. The bird in the lower left is a bit distracting as it is walking out of the frame. |

Jacob,
I like the concentric rings around the duck. The lighting is good and the eye of the bird is sharp, which is important. |

Cindy,
I think you captured the consternation well with the three cygnets protected in between the adults. I doubt that the original green would affect the image quality. |

Mervyn,
Lovely image. I especially like the horizontal base line which anchors both birds and is lovely by itself. The blending greens, yellows, and blues make a very nice palette of color. I would like it better if the wing was in focus but birds rarely hold still and you probably would have needed 1/2000 to stop that motion, which may not have worked. |

Pierre,
Re: bright background. I would apply a vignette. And I might crop in more on the bird if the resolution/sharpness will allow it. |

Brenda,
Nice image. With water reflections it often works out that having the horizon near the middle works well. The foreground is detailed and interesting- I might make it slightly lighter. What was your location along the big lake?
