Anne,
Interesting image - I agree with Rita that taking an image directly into the sun will always result in a blown out area around the sun which will dominant the image. Double exposures were really a film thing back in the day but now I think most photographers would take two separate exposures and blend them together. That allows for total control of each exposure. Still, experimenting with your camera's capabilities in good practice and might result in some unique images. |

Rita,
As you know we have previously talked about these images. As I noted, I think she has a compelling face and you captured her well with soft light and a unobtrusive background (for a natural setting). Her face is sharp so the other softness doesn't bother me. I am using auto ISO more often these days because it lets me focus on one less variable. If you would have used that setting, I doubt it would have pushed to ISO up to any higher than 400 in this lighting. |

Nice image; crisp and little noise for such a high ISO. I would probably eliminate some of the space above the skipper.
Do good photos require good subjects? I think most good photos have a compelling subject but not all. Pattern and light can produce a good photo even without a central subject. |

Damon,
OK; next month I will provide an image I took within 30 days of submission and which will have a prominent foreground element. |

Hi Cindy,
Welcome to this nature group. The texture of the Anole is sharp; I don't think using a faster shutter speed would have made any difference since the Anole was stationary. I agree with Marvyn that the lower right is too bright and distracting - that area could be darkened a bit or cropped out. I think it could be a more compelling image if you cropped in on your subject. See attached possible crop and I darkened some of the bright spots. |

More greens; less blue. I think that is an improvement. |

Jacob,
Very nice image - one of your best.
Next time I would frame the image a bit wider so you don't cut the feet off at the bottom. And I would crop in from the right and edit out that small bit of dark reflection.
The rear end of a big bird is usually not the best view but in this case I think it works well because of the bend in the neck and because the eye is actually looking toward the viewer. |

I definitely don't see many of those around here. The obstruction in the foreground interferes a bit so I might crop in more on the face and arms and, as noted, lighten the left side of his(her) face. |

Brenda,
I like it. The crop works and the color and pattern of the alligator provide visual interest in addition to the action of the wide open mouth. I have no suggested changes. |

Pierre,
I'll bet he didn't stay in that pose for long, so good catch. There are a lot of green/blues in the vegetation but I don't think it looks unnatural. I see you underexposed about 2/3 of a stop - was that on purpose? My wife just walked by and said she loves the image. |

Nice catch in less than perfect conditions. You got the flash exposure right (on the first try?) These little tree frogs are very photogenic largely due to their amazing coloration. |

Brenda,
I think my camera was about 3 feet above the ground on a tripod.
This was one of the rivers that flows into Lake Superior and is a part of the National Lakeshore. I can't remember which one for sure but I think this may be Miners River (there is also a Miners Falls). Or it might be Hurricane River - we went there too. Take the sunset boat tour at Munising if you can.
