Yes, I definitely think that the blurred foreground works better in this image; mostly because there is a less obtrusive foreground and there is a gradual transition from blurred foreground to the in-focus subject.
Even with a heavy camera and lens, you are doing well if you can get up and down from a prone position. I might get down but then I'd be stuck :). |

Excellent ground level sharp focus on the subject; nice background bokeh. While I expect there are situations where an out of focus foreground works well in wildlife photography, I don't think this is one of them (as noted by others) -- I think that one reason it doesn't seem to work well in this image is because of the ground level viewpoint. |

Brenda,
The boat was moving about 15 mph and I was worried about getting blurred images. For this pic, the boat has slowed down so I could have lowered the shutter speed and ISO some but it worked out OK for this image. |
