69 Jan 18 Comment Rob,

I have been in this same area on my last trip to NZ. There is a lot going on in this picture. I might crop in a bit more on the face and eyes of the sea lion but I also appreciate the context the water and vegetation provide.

69 Jan 18 Comment Brenda,

The bright yellow eyes, slightly open mouth and the multi-colored feathers produce an excellent image of this large bird. I actually prefer the original coloration of the owl. I would blur the background a bit too.

69 Jan 18 Comment Donna,

Impressive that you could capture this relatively small flying insect in flight. I especially like the translucent wings in the light. I think I could take hundreds of images and never even get the insect in the viewfinder. I'd crop in even a bit more.

69 Jan 18 Comment Candy,

As far as bird pictures go, I don't think it gets any better than this image. This big white Egret caught in flight against a dark and muted background is very dramatic and impactful. Reducing the busy background definitely helps. The lighting and detail are excellent. Great shot with excellent post refinement.

69 Jan 18 Comment Pierre,

Normally, photos of squirrels don't do much for me but this one is very nice. I like the background of winter weather and the contrast between the snow and the fur of the black squirrel. In northern Michigan, it used to be that black squirrels were rare; now they have become much more common than the gray. I wonder what changed?

You captured a unique animal in a natural setting and pose. Sharp eyes and face, which are critical. The late day lighting brings out the different colors and textures.

69 Jan 18 Comment Yes, I was able to darken the highlights a bit but not really recover the detail. Jan 7th
