12 May 23 Comment There are many spiral staircase images around; one would think they are easy. But I have never taken a good one. So kudos to you! The spiral patttern is very strong, giving the image a lot of impact and interest. The exposure is perfect, especially considering the lighting situation. That bright area near the upper left is a bit distracting. It can be cropped without infringing on the stairs. But then the right side of the image is too heavy. So I cropped equally from both sides. 12 May 23 Comment What a creative interpretation of this scene! One does see colored 'shadows' when light shines through colored glass, but this is great fun. You added the color to the blossom very well; I thought that was the natural color. Yes, desaturating the flower would make it too pale. If anything I would deepen the petals a little. May 20th
12 May 23 Comment Interesting story about thhis image, one you all may have experienced also. This picture hung at a photography show in the local library. Everyone in town saw it (it's a small town) Although all the pictures were for sale, no one bought any. So it came home to hang on our wall. A friend came to visit and commented that he liked that picture best of all (Did he buy it? No.) So I gave it to him. He said thank you. May 20th
12 May 23 Reply Oh, I like that. May 20th
12 May 23 Reply SFX is simply an abbreviation of Silver Effects in NIK. May 20th
12 May 23 Comment Images like this with so many shadows often get to look like a jumble. Perhaps it is the subtle colors or the strong support beams, but this one makes sense. The architect probably planned the placement of the trees, but your angle puts that one tree in just the tight place, giving the viewer something to anchor on. While Carole's suggestion of B&W is good (B&W is often the best choice for shadows) I prefer the color version. May 20th
12 May 23 Comment While the checkboard shadows are the main subject, they lead quite nicely to the mountains in the background. Your post processing brought out details in the trees and rocks very well. You turned a blah sky into something interesting. The end result is the pale gold of an early morning scene. This assigment is 'shadows' so this cropping is good. If you crop a couple of rows of checks at the bottom, these is more emphasis on the mountains; a different look for the same image. May 20th
12 May 23 Comment There is excitement in this image because of the girl running toward the pumpkins, hands splayed in joy. The cropping may be a little close to her head, but that also makes her look way ahead of the adults following. Good job on fixing the grass. Good color and exposure. Very good focus on your moving granddaughter. The diagonal lines of all three shadows lead right to the pumpkins. The fact that one shadow is placed exactly at the corner does not bother me in this case. I like the sky cropped out because that makes the pumpkins more prominent. May 20th

77 May 23 Comment Thank you all for your kind comments. I am no Hazel Meredith when it comes to textures, but I keep trying. How is this version with the music masked from all but the piano keys? May 27th
77 May 23 Comment Wow! Once again, an amazing job teasing out such color and detail from that very dark image. It looks as if the radial mask did a better job than, say, NIK Viveza or Vignette. You applied the smudge filter expertly. I always overdo it and get sub-optimal results. Very well done. May 27th
77 May 23 Comment You did an amazing job of bringing out color and detail from that very dark original. What made you decide to do the Twirl Effect on what is a very good picture of this duck? I love it. The colors are fantastic. The oil painting look furthers the abstract feel of the image. Look at all the possibilities we have with our images. That's very exciting. Just for S and G's I tried rotating it 180 degrees. Didn't work. As to which images work with the Twirl, just try. If you don't like it, delete that layer. May 27th
77 May 23 Comment It looks like you found a sweet combination with the close-up lens and your 24 to 105 mm lens. This is quite an enlargement and the stamens (yes, that's what they are) are tack sharp. The exposure is right on and the DOF perfect. The surfing analogy is spot on. The bright area on the petals to the left look like sun rays. Many people would hang this on their wall, so, yes, it is fine art. May 27th
77 May 23 Comment B&W is a very good treatment for this image. It sets the mood for Opa Jack's memories. You did an excellent job of separating the background. This really puts the emphasis on the subject. His hands are brighter than his face and are a bit distracting. I used NIK Viveza to darken thema little and bring out the texture. I would have left the bruse there, too; those little bruises are part and parcel of the 'Golden Years'. May 27th
77 May 23 Comment Longwood Gardens is one of my favorite places; don't get there often, though. This is a very interesting blossom because of the ing petals and the fine hairs. It is also interesting that the tips of the leaves fall on the same plane as the blossom, leaving a soft focus area around the blossom. However, it seems to my eye that the texture interferes with the details of the petals. Perhaps the blossom should be masked, and the texture effect be removed from it. I love Topaz Studio 2 also. I use it as a plug-in for Photo Shop. And yes, Hazel Meredith has many You Tube videos about adding textures. She started out using random selection for the textures, but now has enough experience to choose properly. Blending modes make a big difference. May 27th
77 May 23 Comment This image is lovely as is, but your processing raises it several levels. The model is exotic, and the red umbrella adds to the mood. You did some very nice retouching of bright areas in the background as well as the mole on near the model's shoulder. The rain is subtle but adds another dimension. Well done. The post? It provides support fo the ivy. Without it, the ivy would be kind of suspended in air. May 27th
