Hi Chane. Just watched your webinar on Using Impact. Thus was not only helpful for judging, but can help photographers prepare their images for Salons. Thanks. |

I like the natural background; it looks more realistic. f/2.8 is probably to wide an aperture to get good focus for a subject with this much thickness. But, This is an enlargement from a much bigger area. It would be difficult to determine critical focus on such a small part of the image. You will have to experiment with your lens to find the sweet spot. Meanwhil, I used high pass filter on just the petal and raindrop. What do you think? |

The wet rock is very interesting. Exposure is difficault here to get the black rock and the white water. I went back to the original and found a different crop. Adding a little water to the right of the rock makes it the real subject. This still allows you to keep that lovely smooth water of the stream. |

Yes, the cropping and vignette really do help the crab stand out from his camoflage. It is amazing that you found him, let alone chased him around to get a picture. Many people would just 'click' and move on to the next subject. Kudos to you for working the subject. |

My first impression was, Wow! The colors, flowing lines, soft textures make this image outstanding. Yes, it would be nice to have all the yellow center in focus. Yes, removing the bright areas on the left is an improvement. But Taken years ago when you were just learning? Take credit for a very good image. |

About 2" on a side. The big blue flower is maybe 1' or so in diameter. Used a 100 mm macro lens, f/8, 1/30 sec. at ISO 4000. A close-up of embroidery makes the htread look like bull rope. Thank you all for your kind comments. |

Is this a close-up or an enlargement of the 'original' shot? Either way, it is amazing! You overcame a lot of challenges - the lighting, the birds movement, the background. There are many shots of hawks in a sort of formal pose. But the crumbs on his face set this one high above those. Kudos on your persistance in finding a good method for bird photography. |

You caught perfect framing of the center of the flower with those curved petals. Yes, the out-of-focus petal that almost overlaps the center is a distraction. Mayb you should have tried a version without that petal. But it is lovely, dreamy, and very artistic. |

Thank you all for your kind comments. It is really hard to take a bad pictture of a good subject. Much credit goes to those sweet girls. |

I am indeed a proud gradma, but our grandson is 26 years old. These charming girls are grandaughters of friends of ours. The older girl was afraid to sit in the crook of the tree, but the little one has no fear. They were adorable. |

The blue background was a little playhouse printed in jelly bean colors. I couldn't figure out exactly how to eliminate that blue from the background. Perhaps desaturating just that color? |

Love old rusty things - maybe because my husband and I are old and rusty. This is a great subject, well placed in the frame. Exposure is good, colors are good. But the old truck is almost lost in the busy background. I tried vignettes, radial filters, burn tool, saturating the red in just the truck - but I can't improve on what you have here. I hope you can get back to Jerome at a different tiime of day; this subject is worth playing with. |

The composition with the dish and lemons on a diagonal adds interest. The simplicity of the subject is also interesting - I personally like these quiet, personal images. Your processing brought out the texture of the lemon rinds; the lighting rounds out their shapes nicely. Your added textures have blended the backgroung an table quite well. Often, the old masters paintings are very dark. I added a Topaz Look called 'distressed grunge' to darken it overall; masked the look from the highlights of the lemons. But perhaps this is what you wanted to avoid. This is a very good image. |

This is lovely, Mary. The clouds rolling from the left as well as the upward slope of the grassy area lead the eye right to the building. The large rock on the right prevents the eye from leaving the scene. There is indeed plenty of texture in the rocks. Did you darken the upeer right corner just a bit? In the original, that corner is bright enough to be distracting. The subtle color is quite perfect for the subject. |
