I thought the buildings were some kind of castle until our friend explained their former use. There is a thriving cement industry in our area. These ovens were abandoned due to newer technology. Thank you for straightening the horizontal alignment; I never noticed it. I would have preferred to have that cloud in a different position, but the winds didn't cooperate. |

In a webinar on landscapes, I learned that there should be a foreground, middle ground, and background. The stream is the foreground, the hedgerow a nice S curve leading to the barn in the middle. The snow-covered mountains in the background are nicely framed in the V of the closer mountains. The scene makes me curious. The barn seems to be in good shape, but no tracks lead to it and the door is standing wide open. The road is rather close, but obviously the people on the road have ignored the barn. Cropping the road does seem to isolate the barn even more. Nice job.

There really isn't much open sky to worry about. I like showing the treetops as it sets the scene. This place has been abandoned long enough for very tall trees to grow close to it. The contrast is low and the colors muted. I like the B&W version better; it solves the contrast/color problem. These old abandoned buildings present us with many possibilities. I hope you were able to scout this one out and get other images. But we have to be careful - sometimes these old buildings are not safe. |

I think you did a good job with focus, exposure, etc. The road leads to a nice vanishing point in the upper right. I agree with Carole that there is too much road. Her crop does put more emphasis on the buildings. But I would leave the red car in the image. It makes a nice focal point for the diagonal road. |

I think you did an excellent job of filling in a lackluster sky with the tree branches. The high contrast creates a serious mood; I would hesitate to approach this house. It would look totally different at a different time of day, perhaps even sad and welcoming. You make me wonder about its story. I wouldn't change anything on this image. But you should go back under other lighting conditions and see what you find. |

I like the way the sign and the windows lead in to the center of the shot. They are lined up perfectly. The reflections in the window are a plus. The bright sign makes a good contrast with the weeds. You use your cell phone a lot, with very good results. I wonder why no one has made use of the building. If it was a popular restaurant, it must be in a good location. I think your post processing is just right. |
