Ally, I just saw your image on the home page. Awesome! Making it a B&W makes it powerful. |

This was fun. First I selected the sky and deleted it. This became an image with just the plane and field. On that 'just plane' image, the exposure was increased; micro contrast, low contrast, and medium contrast were increased slightly; low and medium detail were increased slightly. Back to the original image, I added a vignette to darken the sky (Probably overdid it). Then the 'just plane' image was laid on top. All done in Topaz Studio. |

Yes, that would be a good crop. I tend to get too emotionally involved with my images; that's not good. This particular trip was specially arranged for my husband after he beat cancer. That's probably why I didn't crop. |

I agree about the pole - and an easy thing to correct. We shared the blind with some biology students from Lehigh University. That pole was used as a reference point to locate incoming birds. |

While the birds are being held, they are quite calm. They attack with their talons, and those are under control, rather like a person in handcuffs. |

When I first saw this image my reaction was, "Awww. The bird is out of focus." But after several viewings have decided that it is just as it should be. The golden light, the soft waves, and the peaceful feeling are perfect. A perfectly focused bird would have distracted from the very features that make the image work. |

You did an excellent job of combining the two images. I can see no evidence of cloning or blending. The little bird in the background doesn't bother me. Did the middle bird catch his bread on the fly? Shore birds are quite common, but also quite busy. They move quickly. You did a good job catching these. |

Backlit feathers are very beautiful. Even ordinary gulls look beautiful with a bright sun behind them. This is perfect. |

Wow! I never saw de-icing in progress before. The equipment almost looks like some kind of alien robot creature. Very well done and an eye-catcher. Bet this wasn't in Arizona. |

It looks as though it was a flat light, bald sky kind of day. That makes exposure very difficult. This is the kind of image that Topaz Studio loves. You can add a graduated neutral density filter to the sky (or just a vignette) and bring out that very nice grungey texture on the body. Maybe I'll work on it. |

There are several distractions that could be removed, but wouldn't the strict rules of nature photography make that a no-no? The two main birds and the log make a very nice triangular composition. The splashing is far more interesting than the calm water we usually see with swimming geese. Nice job. |
