Rather than flipping the image, try flipping just the little sea shell so that it points to the purple aster. (Or maybe not, on second thought). Depth of field is the photographer's choice. A shallow DOF will emphasize the 3 foreground objects. Less light on the background objects will give the same emphasis. It seems that textures are the new fad in photography lately, so the background doesn't bother me. |

You heard enough about the distracting objects. The colors are beautiful, the exposure is perfect, the composition almost perfect. There seems to be no little seed texture in the strawberries. Were they ceramic, by chance? Overall, a very good job and perfect for the assignment. |

The highlights on the original image are way too hot. You tamed them down quite nicely in the edited version. How would it be to crop a little from the right; that large dark area doesn't add much to the image. |

In botany class we learned that there is no official classification as 'vegetable.' Vegetables can be leaves, stems, roots, tubers, seeds, and even fruits. It's a cute idea. I would like to see levels adjusted to give the contrast more pop and deepen the colors a little. |

Kerstin, what a good eye you have! I knew there was a good image here somewhere, but kept trying to use the whole set-up. Often I don't narrow down to the important part of the image. Very nice crop. |

Often when taking still life subjects, I find there is not sufficient depth of field. I chose an ISO that would allow me to use at least f/16. I often see photographs that were shot at f/5.6 or wider that seem to be properly focused, but I can't get good DOF under at least f/11. Might it be the lens? |

Your right - a black background would have made the colors of the subject pop better. |

Oooh. Very nice, Carole. Isn't it fun to play with the different tools to see what they might do? Who knew that lots of Gaussian blur would give this result? Nice application of the burn/dodge tool.
