33 Jan 19 Comment Hi Bob,
Perhaps, the word subject doesn't work so I might ask where do you want your viewer's eye to go. The following is my opinion and take it for what it is worth. One of the important tools to manipulate the eye of the viewer is "light and bright" which to my eye suggests that this is a wildflower meadow in the hills since you eye goes right to the foreground. You have 7 layers of foreground to middle ground and if you wish to create a feeling of perspective or 3-D then you have other options. If you wish to emphasize the rock face in the middle ground and perhaps the rim around it then you have another option. If you wish to emphasize or diminish the path going off to the right there will be other options. What I am saying is that there are several elements in this image may be considered. It is a very nice scene, well focused with nice sky and clouds but if I was judging it, it is what you might call too cluttered to be a ribbon winner. A metaphor that I have used is that of a stage. You can have a beautiful scene but it is the primary and secondary actors are what tell the story. To me, this is a very nice scene, well balanced, focused and composed. If I have offended you, my sincerest apologies and disregard everything that I have said.

33 Jan 19 Comment Welcome back Larry. I like the way that you have the hillside in the background a lighter tone to draw your eye through the valley. You may wish to create an implied "S" curve through the valley by lightening up the red tones along the stream bed in the foreground, and some of the reds of the hillside in the middle ground and burning the greens in the upper left corner. Since your eye tends to be attracted to "light and bright" that may take the viewer on a journey up the valley Jan 14th
33 Jan 19 Comment I agree with your assessment that this has a dynamic range issue, however, with that being said, I like the fact that there is a second building in the background to create a story that this was a small community rather than just an isolated building. I like the pano effect and where you stood for the photo to get the buildings relatively close Jan 14th
33 Jan 19 Comment For a point of discussion Bob, what is the subject or is this just a scene? Jan 14th
33 Jan 19 Comment Great colors, well focused, nice feeling of depth and the private sign add a lot for me. I have trouble with the entry arch as everything else looks plumb and square so that looks like a mistake to me. Very nice image! Jan 14th
