Hi Paul,
I look at the name of the beach and think that whoever named it must of stuttered with the double l's and d's. I tried to say the name and that's what comes out of my mouth. Maybe I need to go to a speech therapist. anyway, when I look at this scene two things jumped out at me. One is the curving yellow sand in the distance and the other is the cirrus like cloud going to the upper right corner. In my mind I want to make the surf, yellow dunes and cirrus like clouds into a c-curve. That being said, the texture of the water and the beach material interrupts my smooth flow. So what I tried to do was to put a gaussian blur on the water, then did some burning and dodging to enhance the c-curve and 2-3 of the larger rocks nearest the water and darken the rest of the beach and sky. as I said in my post to Elizabeth, some of the fun in these sessions is to see how another photographer may see the same scene even if it isn't to one's owne taste. my ideas may not be "right", whatever that is but fun for discussion |

Hi Larry,
I like the layers giving this image a three dimensional feel to it. Normally, I would think of a horizontal line such as the brownish trees in the fore ground would halt you eye from progressing back, but in this case I feel that your camera placement showing the break on the tree line just to right of center along with the short vertical line of brownish trees going back to the spruces does move your eye back. I agree with Paul about the sky as it seems to have too much magenta or something in it. Very nice composition. |

Hi Elizabeth,
I like you idea about a silhouette of the lone tree but to me it feels underexposed. I agree with Paul that the foreground
might be lightened a little. I can't help but feel that the tree is the most important element and if the tonal contrast was greater between the tree and the sky, the tree would be even more prominent to out eye. One of the things that I appreciate from the group is when someone tries something with my image that they may see differently than me. Here is one idea from me but just remember it is just an idea for discussion |

Hi Bob,
There is a lot of texture in this image from the sky to the building to the grass which to my eye is very pleasing. I feel that there are lines in the grass going from lower left back and up to the right and the large building seems to be leaning that way. The small building in the back right seems to be plumb and that created in my mind that the building is tilting due to age rather that due to the lens. I also like the hint of red in both buildings which makes me think of rust although I know that they are wood buildings. Nice job. |
