Hi Barbara,
I see in this image one of the problems that I have with closeups of yellows and that is the lack of separation of the
various shades of red within the flower. Was this processed as a 16 bit or an 8 bit image. If it was not 16 bit that may have helped. Also if you process it in LAB rather than RGB that sometimes separates the colors better |

I would agree that it is not a competition image Barbara and as you have noted it was an exercise for me to see what I could do to add perspective (as in 3 dimensional). It is interesting to try to work with such a monochromatic image and try to just use the tonal variations |

HI Joyce,
Actually there is no noise on my computer, even in the few black areas. Mostly it is the weird texture of the area. The "soil" elevates about 1/2 inch above the surface and will crumble if you push you hand on it. If you still think you see noise, tell me about where on the image it is and I will look again.
Thanks,
Ken |

I like the way you tried to remove distracting elements (such as the cut vegetation on the right) by cropping but you don't have enough pixels to work with and the frog is not in focus. Understanding that the frog is not in focus, I tried a couple of things including rotating the frog so that the plant is on a diagonal which sometimes gives an image more of a feeling of energy, I burned the brighter areas behind the frog and I painted a black line in several areas to make the frog stand out. It is a failure behind the head as it is too obvious. These were just exercises to make your subject stand out just as your cropping was trying to do |

I tend to like drama and shadows and I like your use of chiaroscuro in this image and I assume seeing that effect in you mind as you took the image. I see a green tint on my screen which in my opinion detracts but otherwise I like what you have done |
