Larry,
I agree that in a club or exhibition setting the delay in"figuring it out" would reduce the attractiveness of the image. I also agree with the comment by Pat, and others, that the upper left distracts from the flow.
I'm not sure, however, what to do. This remains my favorite image - appeals to my sense of order - and while it is not a traditional view it is, as you will see in coming months, a viewpoint I take frequently.
I've done some editing to address the valuable comments - got rid of a distracting crack, brightened the down spot to draw the eye to another "hint", and eliminated the disturbing blot on the upper left.
Thank you, again, for the improvements. /Stu |

Pat, Thanks for the comment about the upper-left. I look at the image maybe 100 times and never saw the obvious distraction that I could have removed.
A second, or third, set of eyes really helps. /Stu |

Took a second to focus. I like Larry's comments about using the adjustments to get the full range of blacks and whites. It is had to register the fact that the object has "grain", not the photo - balancing the realism with removing the grain may result in a more pleasing photo.
I favor photos with a point of focus - the point is the whole image so I had to chew on it for a minute. |

I, also, love the image - and find the use of ample white space concentrating my eye to the bird and the tail feathers. Took me a while of concentrating to figure out it is a live bird, not a model with a propeller pretending to be a bird. Once my eye adjusted the black and white image seems just right. |

The Mother in the light gives her a central focus in the photo. Seeing her leave, rather than approach, the camera is a strong way to lead the eye into the image in the town. Nice to see the town shadows brought up smoothly. |

Makes me want to move North!
I love the balance of foreground and background objects, with the brightest point of concentration just above the center in the right. I also like the hint of brown and green in an otherwise Winter scent.
A touch more contrast with more brightness in the higher areas would give in the punch I seek - but honestly, would not improve the overall effect. |
