I like this composition Jan. The bird looks as if it was always there. It's a peaceful scene that's a pleasure to view.
My only comment is the left edge seems a little close to the rock in the water. Maybe a tad more room would balance it a bit better.
Very nice image.

What a fun, special image Rita. It reminded me of the good old days when I would have done the same thing, LOL. Just for fun, I made two images that focused on the child and added some old photo edits to them.
In Lightroom, I removed the adult and cropped in on just the child. Then, for the first photo, in Nik Analog Efex I chose the Classic Camera 9 preset which I adjusted a bit to get this kind of burned out color image.
For the second image (in the second comment) I used Nik Silver Efex to convert to monochrome and chose the Classic Portrait Warm and Soft preset, then added a frame.
Just a couple of other ways to think about this image, but the story is all about the child in my opinion. That's why I removed the adult.
Great catch! |

I like this composition and subject matter. I can see why you chose the background texture as the colors work well with your flower. However I feel like it's a little busy and pulls my eyes away from the tulip. The white spots/streaks on the flower petals and stem, which must have come from the Plastic Wrap filter, don't improve this image in my opinion. I still want to see some "beauty" in this flower even though it's fading away. For me, the edits feel too harsh. But was that your intent? For us to see this as a "harsh reality" VS still finding beauty in this aging flower?
I've attached two edits just as food for thought if you want to see this image in a different way. The first, in Lightroom, I just masked the background and reduced the texture, clarity, and sharpness to smooth it out and blend the colors so you could see what the background might look like. Just a quick edit, not perfect. Again, I wouldn't leave the flower with all of that texture when using this background either.
The second, I took your original image into Topaz Studio 2 and layered two textures in Soft Light mode, added a layer with a painterly "look" at very low opacity, then added a color vignette choosing a color from the petals. This gave it a completely different, softer look overall. I have to add the image in a second comment.
I appreciate that you still found beauty in this overlooked object! |

You have definitely made this look like a painted work of art Georgianne. I love the colors you've added, making the small patch of grass at the bottom left look like a flowering bush.
To me, the edits have now deemphasized the pond. I don't see a pond when I look at your final image. But I don't think that matters as it is still lovely to look at the soft colors and dreamy environment. It feels like the lantern is in a beautiful garden. |

Your photoshop skills are shining bright, as usual. I would have never guessed his head was replaced. The background you've chosen suits this image well making one feel like they are dancing in an old world ballroom. The added light rays are also very realistic to my eyes, coming in from the correct direction for the highlights and shadows. Really nicely done!
The one thing that bothers me is that the female is looking directly at you while the male's eyes are looking to the side somewhat. For me, that makes it feel like he's a little disconnected from the moment. It reduces the drama a bit for me.
