Ohhhh! I like this edit so much more. Adding in the bottom of the vase really enhanced this image. I also like how you took out the large stems and leaves in the vase. Now that I see it without them, I think it's an improvement. Love it! |

I have found that if you angle a white foam core board, or white poster board, towards the dark shadows to bounce light into the dark areas, that helps a lot. No extra light is generally needed as long as you find the right position to place your white board. And it also prevents the light from being too harsh in that area. You still want the shadows for depth, but not necessarily a black hole. :)
In your original photo it looked like you had plenty of light from the left, to bounce back into the shadows with a white board angled from the right. |

I was also torn about how far to go with punching up the color. I always fear going too far and making a serene image too "crunchy". :)
Thank you for your suggestions and the example. |

You have completely transformed your original image into a really nice work of art. I love the color choices you made and flipping it enhances the feeling of the wind blowing the sea oats in my opinion.
I agree with the edit Witta made on the lower right corner as an opportunity for improvement.
This is a lovely image. |

You did a beautiful edit on your daughter's photo. The skin looks very natural and soft. I love the color tones added by the ColorEfex Pro filter. The lighting on her face is very pretty, but I did like the minor edits that Witta did to add just a tad bit of separation of her hair from the background. It was subtle, and didn't take away from the nice light on her face. There is nothing else I can add as a note for improvement.
Very nice! |

Connie, I love old barns but have never had an opportunity to photograph any! I really like the composition of this photo. The addition of the birds adds to the leading lines taking you towards the barn. As we typically read left to right, I feel like the birds flying from the left towards the barn makes a very nice balance.
The way you've processed the black and white makes this very ethereal to my eye. I like the kind of misty or foggy effect the faded, light vignette adds. Maybe it could be toned down just a little? I don't know if that would add anything, but I like where you were going with it.
The image gives me a sense of looking at an old photo of an old barn, with the somewhat grainy background and lack of sharp detail. I think the sepia coloration tends to do that to images. It looks intentional to my eye, therefore I like it from that perspective. Could you bring out a little more detail or texture in the wood and overgrowth? Maybe; that's definitely an idea to play with to see if that suits what you were going for. |

Witta - I feel like these flowers are from another reality. I honestly don't know the criteria for the altered reality kind of entry, but you did a very nice job of turning these flowers into a kind of alien species, LOL. However I do think having the vase cut off at the bottom detracts from the composition. You might consider adding the curvature of the bottom back in.
I like the colors and the glowing effect on the flowers, plus the unusual background, so I think this is very creative. |

This is a lovely composition. Your subject matter is very appealing with the warm colors and varied textures. I like the background you've chosen and feel you did a great job of incorporating it into the image.
On my screen the blacks in the shadows around the corn and peppers is very dark and void of any detail. I think lightening those areas would benefit this image.
Really nice job capture! |
