Very clever edits Connie. I think the composition looks nice with the flower petals over the leaf as well.
Honestly, when I'm out in nature shooting flowers and plants, I look for the "natural" composition and/or physically move distracting elements if I need to without damaging the flowers or surroundings. I enjoy the hunt to find an image that nature gives me. But depending on my mood, I might take a shot of something that I want to play with later as well.
I appreciate your feedback. |

Thanks for your feedback Witta. The petal at the top is not missing per se; it's folded over from the weight of the water. Blown up to a larger size, it's more clear that the petal is bent and you can see the detail of the fold.
For some reason I'm drawn to scenes where leaves are embracing the flower as long as they're not overpowering or distracting from the overall composition. I felt this leaf was hugging the flowers, therefore wasn't thinking about diminishing it in any way. But I see your point. |

I really love this image Linda. The composition is very nice. I love how the flowers start in a big mass on the left and trail off to the right with that gentle curve. I think reducing the amount of sky was a good crop choice. You did make the sky more interesting as well, but I wonder if it might be a little too dark? I'm torn about that personally. :)
I think this is a very pleasing landscape. |

Very nice composition and concept Michael. You did a really good job of blending the textured background fading into the smooth black of the reflection surface. I personally like how you did additional edits to the top leaf but the reflection doesn't mirror those edits. At first I thought that would bother me, but I actually think it keeps this image interesting. |

So great that you decided to experiment! I think this is nice, abstract art. However for me, the star of the show (no pun intended) is the starry sky showing through the trees. So I would suggest a different crop that centers the sky a little more so it can play a bigger part in the overall composition. Plus, remove the little clump at the bottom. I don't feel it adds anything to the photo. Here's an example of what I was thinking: |

Wonderful capture of this beautiful setting. I like both the color and monochrome, but for me, the color wins out. I think it compliments the mill really well and allows it to stand out. The monochrome tends to make the mill blend into the background a bit too much to my eye. I prefer seeing all of the different, natural colors within this setting. It compels me to want to go there.
I think your editing choices elevated this image. Very nice! |

What a beautiful, peaceful place this appears to be. I love how you captured the light coming through the trees and falling on the trail. One can imagine walking out of a shaded woodland into that wonderful light.
I have made a slight edit as a suggestion, to really emphasize the light. I took the image into Lightroom and used a radial mask to decrease the exposure around the outer parts of the image, leaving the path where the light is falling unedited. I think that helps to emphasize walking out of the shade and into the light. Just my take, but I think you've got a wonderful composition. |

Mary - I absolutely love this image. These girls are beautiful and you captured such great expressions.
My only comment is if you considered changing the angle of their positions to enhance the eye contact? There is something about the baby being completely horizontal that is bothering me a bit. So I rotated the image somewhat to see if that helped. Of course it left a lot of blank canvas so I just quickly filled it in, not suggesting that you use those edits! I may have even over rotated, but do you think changing the position adds anything to the image? |
