60 Feb 20 Reply Hi Bob. Thanks for your comments! In the original, full size raw file, when I zoom in on the anthers you can see blue, yellow pollen specs, and the dark brown base color. There is a lot of texture on the anthers that can also make them seem really dark in this smaller, resized photo as well.

I also do not have an issue with the softer background from an artistic point of view. I was trying to capture the color and pattern, as well as having the stamen and anthers in focus. I can see some benefit in lightening up the anthers a bit more, as others have mentioned as well.

Appreciate your feedback.

60 Feb 20 Reply Hi Doug. I tried to focus dead center, so actually, the head of the stamen and tips of the anthers are sharply in focus since they were the closest to the lens. On the original photo, it doesn't seem as soft as it does in this upload for some reason. But I see what you are referring to.

And yes, I do try changing my focus several times when I'm taking macro shots, as it can be tricky to nail the focus!

60 Feb 20 Reply Thanks Bill!. I had my WB on automatic, but the tips of the anthers were actually blue. Is that the blue areas you are referring to? Feb 18th
60 Feb 20 Reply Thanks Lou. I'll give your suggestions a try. Feb 10th

60 Feb 20 Comment This is an outstanding photo Lou! You've nailed the lighting, and the detail is just wonderful. I can "feel" the texture.

There are a couple of hot spots, one right below his chin, and the other in front of his lips. I don't know if you use Lightroom, but maybe using the adjustment brush to paint in reduced highlights might help a little. But I still really love this photo.

60 Feb 20 Comment Love the curves, detail, and texture in this photo. You have a great eye for seeing the possibilities here. Very well lit, and nice dark background. You execute your focus stacking very well! Feb 8th
60 Feb 20 Comment This is a lovely, well balanced image Bill. Your crop was spot on. I'm not sure what you are referring to about removing color?

This does have a fairly dark vignette added to it which may be just a little strong. But I still find it a very appealing photo. Nice job!

60 Feb 20 Comment I am also really drawn to textures on bark, so I understand why this caught your eye! For me, because you wanted to emphasize texture, I feel more should be in focus. Either by using a smaller aperture, or changing your angle to level your focal plane. Possibly even a different crop would help bring out the point of focus since you couldn't get closer (I've attached an example). Feb 8th
