Have had another look at the image Gary, and you are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT in that the eye stops at the foreground figure and doesn't want to move further!
Very interesting observation which makes the flow so much better. Thanks again!! |

Gary - this is an absolute gem taking us back to 1863!! The given treatment fits in well with the theme that you are trying to portray. For me it's the old guy with the stick that has made this picture. Added to this is of course the post-processing the way you have carried out.
Now strictly on a very minor point I see specks of red tones in parts of the shadow areas. Wonder if you'd purposely left them in!!! |

Malanie - Everything is going for this image ... and you have done full justice in portraying the Farm House surrounded by trees, foliage, etc.
On a minor point though, would you perhaps consider extending the canvas on the left, making the building slightly off center!! |

Jack - I really like the moody atmosphere that you have conveyed through your image. Full marks for that ... maybe one for the wall!!
Speaking compositionally, I tend to agree with Gary in that it needs a bit more base (as he has done in his version).
Would love to see the same scene on a sunny day ... purely as a comparison!! |

Thanks for you valuable and helpful comments, Gary. I do like the idea of cloning out the highlights of the tennis shoes. And, what a difference has it made to the whole image! Thanks also for posting your version of the image.
When post-processing, I was double-minded whether or not to leave those highlights in. The only reason for leaving them in was to enable the eye to travel from the foreground figure towards the left side of the group!!
