I have taken everybody's comments to heart. I have increased the contrast in the monochrome image. I darkened the edges of the color image, not by using a vignette, but by using the color picker in Lightroom, choosing the color of the upper ceiling and reducing the brightness. That new tool is very effective in that way. |

Ian, great image! One that really captures my eye and my attention. The comments others have made are also interesting.
At first, like Guy, I thought this might be the owner on the right in the background, EXCEPT, the owner's helmet is in the taxi and the man on the right has his own helmet. Then I wonder if he is thinking "I've been riding a motorcycle many years and I've never seen anything like this!"
Summary, many pictures are technically good but this one also makes the viewer stop, look in depth and ponder what the three people in the image are thinking.
Thanks for sharing. |

Vella, this is a great shot with the mother and baby together and you seem to have captured it at exactly the right moment. In my opinion you have done a good job in post with the brightness and saturation of the image. For me the vignette in the upper left seems a bit too dark and I would, for my preferences, lighten it.
Great image and I hope your husband is on the mend. |

Guy, my comments are as Isaac has pointed out. I feel that the bridge despite its offset provides a nice leading line to the path and the church. This seems to lead my eye into the image and fix it at the church and surrounding yard.
I believe that you have done an excellent job with the brightness, DoF and colors yielding a very realistic image. To my taste I would add a bit more contrast to the sky. |

I love the image Bill and waiting for the Golden Hour light was, to my eye, absolutely the right time. In his book "The Art of Photography" Bill Burnbaum talks about the difference between what we view and the image that results. Our eyes overlook the way shadows fall across the focus points of our image. Thinking of that I put your image into PS and cloned out the shadows on both the larger building and the small building in the rear where the shadow covered a portion of the building. To me this maintains the quality of the image while removing some potential distractions. |

Thanks Guy. All good suggestions. And no attempt at all to steal the title. Just a humble challenger! |

Erik, I feel that you did a good job with the exposure and the additional post work. The lighting appears to my eye to be very natural. I think the sunshine adds a warming and pleasant effect without being bright enough to overpower.
For me the reflection of the tree moving to the bottom edge of the image keeps pulling my eye out of the frame.I have tried these images many times and find this to be a common problem. I believe it works best when the object and its reflection are fully contained within the image. Looking forward to shooting Circle Bar B with you next year. |

Great action shoot Isaac. I wonder what damage was done - wouldn't want to be the bird on his back. It is amazing how quickly the birds move when even 1/640 sec doesn't freeze the feet of the birds |

Carol, first let me say welcome to DD. I am so glad that you have joined. And what an excellent image to show us.
To my eye the line of the foreground coming from the diagonal corner along with the range of tones makes this a strong eye-catching foreground. I feel that the sky in your image was having a little trouble competing. In the VF I took your image, increased the blacks overall. Then I selected just the sky in LR and reduced exposure and added contrast. For me this seems to bring a bit better balance. Please let me know what you think. Good Job! |
