Guy, my first look at your image told me that the white diamonds were the "flat part of the imaginary steps." But the white sneaker on the white just didn't cut it. It was not hard once I placed them on the gray for me to see those as the flats parts. Let me know what you come up with. |

BTW I clipped the shoe, feathered the edge, made multiple copies, rotated them and resized each to give perspective. |

Great Portrait Ian and the story is fabulous. It is fortunate for both you and Sir Walter that nothing went wrong with the "Canon" as both of you may have lost yours heads then and there. In Walter's case instead of losing it on October 29! Lol |

Guy, I found this image very interesting as my eye loves patterns. To me though the black areas (bottoms of service counters I presume) and the cut off legs were distractions. I think the the patten of the floor makes a great background. So I chose just the right shoe, copied it over and made this as a way to move the viewer's eyes through the image. If I had spent more time I might have placed more shoes on the floor. I'm sure you will have some thoughts to share back. |

Thanks Ian. This area of photography for me is a lot of work. I have come to understand the basics of it. Now I have to consider how to push the envelope. If you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate them. |

This is a great image. A clear crisp subject doing something that is part of its nature. Good placement in the image. A soft background with complementary colors. This has to be a winner in Nature/Wildlife! Well done! |

Erik, to me this image says that there is a story here. It makes me want to learn more about why the smaller grackle dislikes the Caracara so intently that he would pick a fight that he is outmatched in!!
I think your choice of f/8 and 1/1600 sec was spot on as you have crisp definition and both birds in complete focus. Good quick catch with the camera. You seem to be "the master" of that type of shot! |

Bill, I have sat and looked at this image for quite a long time. I feel, like my image this month, that you're trying to demonstrate what can be done with technology. Overall, I really like this image. As others have said, the reflection in the sidewalk is very well done. I sat and wondered for a long time if the roofline should be distorted in Photoshop to be parallel. I eventually concluded that the answer was no, the parallel vertical sides of the building carry the image. To my eye you used the entire tonal range - the grass in the foreground is nicely dark, but still has discernible shape. The lights in the reflection are bright, but not to the point of distracting the eye. The only thing the iPhone 14 did not seem to get right were the clouds in the distant right side of the image. I'm not sure why they look so strange. Great image though! Thanks for giving me something to think about for so long. |

Vella, let me address this in two parts. First the building structures. I feel that you did a superb job of converting the buildings to monochrome. My eye tells me that you have covered the tonal scale completely and have razor sharp lines. I think the curve from the lower left corner is great composition. In my mind these buildings don't need much of a sky to complement them and complete the image. As a friend of mine in PSA says, the buildings "are where the party is at."
Secondly, from my experience in Monochrome I feel that you have made the sky too contrasty. I think that it is stealing the viewer's eyes away from the buildings, the main subject of the image. It seems to me that the overall image might be helped by reducing sky contrast and totally removing the "jet trail" in the top middle. |

Interesting thought! It does look pretty nice. Did you think at all about extending it on the bottom a bit to capture all of that flower? I like what you did.
