For me, the blending is a slow and tedious process. I will often try two or three different secondary shots and perhaps use bits and pieces of each one. Regarding the foreground, taking away with appears to be a third person, partially underwater, I think that the other two might add to the story told by the image. |

Ian, I hope you are continuing to recover! To my eye this is a great image. It looks to me like a character out of some Steven Spielberg movie! I believe that you did an excellent job choosing the 2.8 f/stop as it renders the close circles tack shape and the background circles et al soft and non-distracting to the viewer's eye. For me, some of the green dots on the upper left are the one area that could be cloned out to make that bit less distracting. Well done! Get better quickly! |

Guy, from my experience you chose a good exposure time to give a soft, yet not too soft, texture to the cascading water. To my eye 2 or 3 of the larger white water areas could use a bit more detail. When I do this I often take one of the shorter exposure time shots and carefully (33% opacity or so) blend it in with the chosen image.
I believe that the f/stop chosen was correct as you have captured the trees in focus as well. I feel that the overall image could benefit if it had a foreground as well. |

Great use of the iPhone apps. To my eye you are very good at the post processing work on the iPhone. I would very much have liked to see the original image to compare. Perhaps you could send it along and I could upload it.
To me the addition of the balloon with reflection adds good color and interest to the image. For me, however, the reflection of the top of the lighthouse in the lower right is a distraction to the eye. Perhaps it could have been softened in post work.
NOTE: Bill has forwarded his original image which I have included under this note. |

Well done on the spur of the moment. To my eye the four birds make an interesting focus point for the eye. There soft blues and greens in the back work well with the whites of the foreground. Might have been a perfect "10" had you caught the full wings of the top bird. |

Vella, to me this image is very sharp and as others have said you've done a great job given a high contrast situation. I think you've titled the image well in the captures a great moment of mother and calf together.
It seems to me that if presented with this opportunity again you might try shooting from a more "head on" position so that you can capture the same impact with less extra space (i.e. the amount of body on the mother and the baby could be compressed). I have to agree with Isaac that on my monitor I also do not see a blue cast of the image. |

Isaac, I felt that the statement "The chosen image is the iPhone" explained that choice. |

Isaac, to me the strengths of this image's composition include the sharpness and the depth of field. In my opinion the post processing crop is done perfectly and really "elevates" the image. I am curious, what is at the bottom of the 'V'? It looks like a metal ring? |
