Thanks Trey. Yes it was a tough call between "realistic" and showing off the color for the mountains. Given that I probably would not enter this in a PSA exhibition I chose the latter.
Hope all is well with you and you can enjoy a safe and happy holiday with family and friends. All the best! |

Guy, if you want to use it as a base then clone out the portion on the right and make the base consistent all the way across. |

Guy, I like the "cubist" sort of look of this reflection. Have you ever thought of doing a PSA portfolio of reflections? I believe that it would be quite different from the standard submissions.
To my eye the horizontal line at the bottom of the image should either be cropped out or cloned out. I think that the contrasted blues and yellows work well in this image.
Thanks for sharing. Happy Holidays! |

Erik, I like the way the colors in this image work in harmony - the blues, greens, yellows and grays. It appears to me that your DoF and focus are spot on. To my eye the composition is strong and balanced. I think the three diagonals - the green foreground pines, the yellow aspens and the hilltops - create an image that is pleasing to my eye and holds my eye. The slight puffy clouds in the background add nicely to the mix.
In assessing the overall image I keep looking at the "partial" trees at the left and right edge. From my experience I would have preferred the entire tree, but in this case I am not sure that I would crop to remove what is there.
Thanks for sharing. Happy Holidays! |

Ian - tremendous image. To my eye the use of two primary colors and Black and White - in about equal weight - makes this an image that grabs my eye and holds it there. For me the makeup and wardrobe of the model makes me start conjuring up stories about what or who this person/zombie (Lol) actually is. I believe that the black background, differentiated nicely from the subject also helps focus the viewers eye. Well done!!! |

Guy, thanks for the comments. I did not have an issue because StarStax, like many Astrophotography software, allows you to include a totally black image in the stack to subtract out the noise. |

Vella, to my eye the colors you have been able to achieve in PP are quite vibrant and really draw in the viewer's eye. I feel that there is no fixation point to hold the eye however. From my experience one way to do this is to have a still subject in the image. I did this years ago (couldn't find the image to show you) while riding (as a passenger) down a country road in Autumn. I set the camera for a long exposure time. I was facing away from the late afternoon sun and the car and passengers were silhouetted against the far bank and the multi-colored trees. The shadow was perfectly fixed and the trees were a blur. |

Isaac, this is a very interesting technique. I have never done this and would have to see in the Canon 5D Mark IV will doing this as described. To my eye you have done an excellent job in PP of matching the Hue/Saturation of the water plants with that of the frog. Were they that close or did you adjust one or the other for the match? I am also curious about the unique shape of the darkened area around the edges. Is this a manually created vignette? A darker mask applied? |
