4 Sep 21 Reply That is an interesting insight Trey. There is no Vignette on it at all. Elements of the picture make it look like it is on three sides. I will look at darkening the lower right to complete the look. Thanks! Sep 19th

4 Sep 21 Reply Ian, I did one more version. It was after Sharon's input. (Look at my reply to her to see it.) I am a bit better with some of the DxO adjustments than the PS alternatives so that helped. Anyhow, I am getting there. Thanks again for your input. Sep 17th

4 Sep 21 Reply Thanks for the tips. This is what I came up with. Your explanation was immensely helpful as it was done through post-process techniques with which I am most familiar. Sep 17th
4 Sep 21 Comment Ian, thanks for the comments. It is always a tough call for me between what I like at first look and what might be found most favorable in an exhibition judges eye. Based on your comment I went back and increased contrast but not as far as your VF. To me the cloud in the upper right, the bottom of the door and a few other spots became too black and lost detail. Thi is what I came up with. Sep 12th
4 Sep 21 Comment I think the sharpness is "exquisite." And the image appears to cover the entire tonal range.

To my eye the use of 3 lines to lead the eye through the composition is well done. I believe that it gives good balance left to right in the image. However, from my experience the one peak and one partial peak in the right foreground seem to be distractions from what I believe is the main focus point - the house on the left and the pier. Do you have more on the right in the original? Can you complete the second peak?

4 Sep 21 Comment Ian, I think that Stuart has provided some excellent advice. To my eye the balance that this brings top to bottom - that is the water in the foreground is now about the same size as the clear sky in the background - improves the image.

I feel that the colors of the water and sky work well together and the brightness of the Lighthouse is enough to draw and hold the viewer's eye on the lighthouse as a whole and not just on that part of it. The shutter speed chosen yields enough detail to match the mid-ground cloud detail.

4 Sep 21 Comment Vella, I love the story that this tells about the ability of the leopard to hunt in camouflage within his surroundings! Nature is truly amazing. To me eye the sharpness of this image is also a key. The capture setting were spot on.

From my experience I feel the leopard should still (despite what I said above) standout more in the image. To that end in the VF I put the image into Color Efex Pro 4 and used 2 filters - Pro Contrast and Dark Edge/Light Center. I am not sure how you feel but I feel it highlights the cat a bit better.

4 Sep 21 Comment Erik, thanks for sharing this gorgeous picture of a natural wonder not far from us in Rochester. For me this brings back many memories from childhood through the most recent visit 2-3 years ago. From my memory I have never seen it so lovely. Well done.

I believe that you timing in the Blue Hour was perfect and your choice of filter seems to have worked. I assume this was a "straight" ND and not a "Graduated ND." Is that correct? To me eye the sharpness and DoF are well done.

Thanks for sharing!

4 Sep 21 Comment Bill, I love this image. Nice job! For me the reds, blues and greens work very nicely in harmony. I feel the the composite has strong foregrounds and mids - and with the sky you added a strong background as well. I believe that your drone shot has provided excellent sharpness and DoF.

To my eye you need just a bit more space above the lighthouse so I used PS "Content Aware Fill" (a rather new upgrade to this feature) to add more sky. (BTW If the sky has gone a bit cyan it is only the jpeg processing - I didn't mess with that as it appeared correct in your image.)

4 Sep 21 Comment It's always nice to find something you weren't looking for on an image-taking expedition. This one is quite clever.

Thanks for "new word" in my vocabulary as well as the trip back in time (yes, I am also told enough to remember Alfred Hitchcock Presents).

52 Sep 21 Comment Very sharp and very well done. To my eye this Ruby Throat is exquisite even without the iridescence. For me the green, red and yellow of the flowers work well with that slight purplish cast often seen in the wings of these creatures. The choice of f/stop and shutter speed in my opinion give the perfect combination of sharp image and soft background. Sep 7th
