You should verify but I believe that substituting layers is allowed in the Color Open Exhibitions but not in Nature or Photojournalism |

Yes, the sky is of no interest. This was meant as an architectural shot. Any sky was, to me, a distraction. |

To me this image can have impact. I have tried this same shot from the same location with the same results. I believe that you have composed nicely - putting the fixation point of Mt. Hood where it will draw and hold the eye. For me the foreground rock nicely adds some depth perception. It appears that the depth of Field and the Exposure are spot on.
From my experience, and I got the same result that you did, the image can be enhanced by a sky that adds to the feeling of tranquility. In the Visual Feedback (VF) I added a sky with color using On1 2018 Layers. In PS I quickly duplicated the sky, inverted it and added it at 35% opacity to the lake. It isn't perfect but should give you something to think about the next time you get up to Mt. Hood.
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. |

It appears that you got to the Moulton Barn at the right of day time for great lighting, balance of color and soft shadows. It seems to me that this is one of the best locations for shooting the Grand Tetons in the background. I believe you have done a good job of creating visual distribution between the barn, the grove of trees and the Mts.
From my experience - having seen this shot many times - there is too much foreground that distracts the eye from the more important points mentioned above. To my eye the image lacks some contrast. In the Visual Feedback (VF) - not spending the time to make it perfect but only trying to demonstrate what I am suggesting - I cloned the foreground upwards using the large clump of grass as a starting point (PS). I have also increased the contrast and dehazed (LR).
I would be interested to know your thoughts. |

Photo matrix Pro provides many more options than I have seen in other places. I haven't looked at PS options though. It was recommended to me by Michael Anderson my HDR tutor. |

Rajani, to me the effort you went to in order to get this image has great impact on me - it is admirable. For me, the color that you created in the cleft of the rock has created a dramatic fixation point for the eye. Great Job!
In my opinion the light in the sky to the left is a distraction from the mountain. However, I believe that you should make the final decision based on what you were trying to tell the viewer and what mode you wanted to create. In the meantime I have turned this into a vertical and cropped in the Visual Feedback (VF). For me this brings the viewer's eye to only one spot. To my eye the striations on the rocks and the clouds in the sky could benefit from more Dynamic Contrast so I used On1 Photo Raw 2018 to place some into those two areas.
As always I will be interested to hear your thoughts back.

For me the color and the exposure you have created in the sky draws and holds the eye. It seems to me that the sky is the intended fixation point and I thing you have achieved that. I believe that the balance of color and the brightness in the sky also adds to the image. To me this is a very "eye pleasing" image.
From my experience I think that the image lacks some separation in the foreground. In the Visual Feedback (VF) I have added a graduated NDF to slightly separate the base of the mountains from the "plain" without overly drawing attention to that area. To my eye the sky needed a bit more contrast so I have used On1 2018 Effects to increase the midrange Dynamic Contrast. |

Trey, the cost of On1 Photo Raw is about $100 as I remember it. If you join On1 Plus, which costs about $50 a year, you get On1 Photo Raw the software for about $50 - give or take.
On1 Plus is very valuable to me. It has numerous training courses, preset downloads for members, blogs for corresponding with professional photographers such as Hudson Henry, and more.
The capabilities go beyond LR and PS. In my opinion Layers are easier to work with, Luminosity Masks are easier to create and manipulate, small area adjusts are easier to target,.... |

For me this image has great impact when the point of fixation is the beautiful ring of light created by the late day sun through the yellow and orange leaves. It appears to me that the sharpness and depth of field as well as the balance of color are well done.
It seems to me that the ring of light can be further highlighted (See the Visual Feedback (VF)). I used a luminosity mask in On1 and set it to only impact the mid-tones and shadows. I used further selective masking to bring back some of the oranges around the right side. In my opinion the crack in the road, especially as it leads directly to the signature, is a distraction. I have removed it. I would be interested in your thoughts on the changes. |
