Richard, I feel that you have done an excellent job with the exposure and the color of this image.
From my experience there are too many distractions in the horizontal image - bare trees and shadows. So like Michael I was thinking of the vertical shot. I quickly converted it and increased the exposure in the reflection of the falls. |

As the others have said, I believe that you have done a very good job capturing this image quickly out of the car window. From my experience Michael has given some very sound advice - dehaze is almost always a good approach with image shot out of car or plane windows. I believe that the approach of using two layers (I use On1 Layers) will work. I usually invert the top layer creating a white mask over it - in this case the darker one - and then paint in the areas that I want to darken). Using a small brush with a moderate feather should blend it quite well. |

Arne, in my opinion this is an excellent image. For me the fixation point is the closest of the stilt fisherman so in my Visual Feedback (VF) I have slightly increased the exposure on his upper body and the contrast of his yellow wrap. I believe you have done an good job with the depth of yield, the color and have used virtually the entire light spectrum.
To my eye the sky (background) was not as strong as the foreground so in the VF I selectively increased the Dynamic Contrast in On1 Effects. I feel that the rocks on the left side can be a bit of a distraction but I did not want to tamper with those in the VF.
Overall I think you have done an great job. Thanks for sharing your methods. |

Thanks for the input Michael. I will look at that area in finer detail. This image has been accepted in PSA exhibitions but not medal'ed so there is always room for improvement. |

For me this image tells a story of the wonderful fall days in the NE United States. I feel that you have done an excellent job with the exposure - capturing both the fog and the brilliant colors of the fall foliage. To me the placement of the farm leads the viewer's eye to the intended fixation point. I believe that this is a very good image.
In my opinion the tree in the right foreground is a distraction. To my eye the highlights in the barn are a bit overexposed. In the Visual Feedback (VF) I have tried to address both of these.

For me, as a former Boston area resident, this image has impact. I think that the rich green colors work well in harmony with the tulip and flowering tree blossoms. In my opinion the sidewalk rails and blossoms lead the viewer's eye into the Fixation points that include the tulips. To me the line of scrubs in the left center also lead the viewer's eye nicely toward the background. From my experience the depth of field and exposure are pleasing to the eye.
I believe that the sky portion of the image is a distraction to the mid-ground and foreground details.
In the Visual Feedback (VF) I put the image into On1 Layers and removed, via masking, the original sky. I chose one of their skies that was mainly overcast and laid it in as a new layer. I also adjusted the dynamic contrast of the buildings. This was done quickly so it can only give an idea of how a more dynamic sky may influence the image. |
