Unlike Wanda I have never seen these falls.
In general, HDR can do some "funky" things to moving water because it isn't the same in each shot. I have found this with whirlpools below falls.
It would be interesting to see what you get if you took your nominal exposure, created two clones, adjusted each two stops, one plus exposure and one minus exposure, and then did the exact same processing. |

Oh, sorry. Love the clouds as well! Very moody! |

Wanda, first, thanks for providing all the post-processing details. It gave me one or two new things to think about.
I like the contrasting colors of the yellow rocks and the blue undertones of the water. For me the one distractraction was the cool color of the top of the mountain in the background. If you could find a way to warm it up, making it fit more with the foreground trees and the bottom of the same mountain, I think you would get the benefit of the shape of the mountain without taking my focus from the water. |

Richard, I like the photo. I love the star burst - better than I can do!
I would try making the following changes. First, crop the left side to remove the rock, it is a distraction. Second, I would crop the bottom to remove about a third of the beach as it measures on the left-hand side. I would locally dodge, or change the Black point, to provide more detail and less black on the wall of the cave. I would burn the bright sky reflection in the water so that doesn't draw attention from the beautiful sky.
Nicely done!

Ok, I am going to suggest a different approach. I like the way the car stands out from everything else. It's colors allow it to be the sole subject.
I think that if you removed the background totally and placed a uniform blurred background behind it that you would allow the viewer to focus totally on the car.

Interesting! What did you learn from this that might be helpful when shooting a real outdoor seen that has "hot spots"of much higher brightness? |

I read all of Mike's comments and your responses. I really like the picture and I DO NOT think it would be improved if you had the full reflection in it. I am wondering though if you could get more of the reflection so that the waterline is at the 1/3 point in the photograph in the photograph.
Good job! |
