What is this photo about? You have said it is about the face and her eyes. I agree and she does make an interesting image. So let's us now look at the rest of the image. For me in all the versions the background is a distraction. I tried to fit her into a different background but I couldn't find anything I liked. I also don't like the part of the hat in the top right. You have shot at f/2.8 which gives a very narrow depth of field and her hair is out of focus and I think you have over processed to try to get things in focus.
Given my comments, I have made a big crop to cut out most of the background. I also cloned her hat a bit to fill any empty patches. I then went into Luminar Neo and used a bit of auto AI to improve her face and still in Neo I worked on her eyes. I did a slight sharpen in Topaz AI. Finally I reduced the contrast in all but her face and added a vignette. Please let me know what you think.

For me adding the colour layer to the image was inspirational. You have made an ordinary image into something special. I agree with Stuart about the cropping and I might add a small vignette. |

A great shot Sophie. You have managed to keep the background out of focus and the colours are beautiful. You have done an excellent job processing it and I have nothing to add to improve it. What were you camera settings? |

A great action shot. I think that every way of improving the image has been suggested already. |

I too like images of steam locomotives. Your image is taken in a good position and I like the lines in the field running parallel to the line but curving at the end. Taking out the fallen tree improves the image. However your processing is not to my taste, for me it is oversaturated particularly with the blue sky and red carriages (although Oliver likes this). I much prefer the original. I would like to see more detail in the wheels of the locomotive. On the raw file you should be able to bring this out. Is there a reason why you shot a moving subject at such a low shutter speed (1/90 sec)? Pictorially does flipping the image improve it? |

For me this is a good example of where mono works. You don't say which filter you have used in Silver Efex but I think it is a good choice. You haven't included all of the bride and groom in the reflection and I think that is also appropriate. I agree with the comments made by Mark and Jim. Assuming you still have the inserts on seperate layers you might consider reducing the opacity of these layers to help them blend into the background or use the same filter to convert them to mono as you used with the main image. |
