Open the image in Photoshop.
Create a new Levels layer. My settings were 6, 1.12, 249.
I then merged visible and sharpened that layer I used Nik sharpener but you could use any other sharpening tool.
If you need more help then please let me know.

I made my changes in Photoshop. Do you have Photoshop. If so I can explain what I have done. |

Yes this image is well worth printing. I do agree with Candia, although just reducing the contrast might be enough. I think it works well in both colour and mono but I would just prefer colour. |

A nice image which could be improved with a little sharpening. I like the green liquid and the black background. I haven't seen images such as this and I echo what Pete says and hope you will share future images with us. |

I think Pete has done an excellent job and made it into something extra special. When I was about to type this my wife walked into the room and Pete's version was on the screen. Her comment without being prompted was "I like that. Where is it?" |

Thanks Mark. I wasn't happy with the image and that is why I submitted it. I have placed the original on a new layer masked everything but the face then reduced the opacity. The seems to have the desired effect. It also darkens the right side of the face as suggested by Pete. |

Here is another image showing another woman just about to get out of the pond. |

The event is called Born Survivor where entrants have to go round a course with various obstacles. See

In my image the woman (it's not a man) has just swum under some barrels in a very muddy pond. The original I provided was taken from the raw file after I had cropped it. The uncropped is below. |

Well seen. I like the curves in the river and the trees coming in from both sides. I would not crop as Pete has done as you loose the duck coming in from the bottom right. I would like to see more contrast as it does seem to be a little flat. You have named it "Susquehanna in a Snowstorm" but on my monitor I cannot see any snow falling so just for fun I have added some. |

A good image which has been caught at just the right time. I don't know what you mean wanting "cleaner light on the pelican". The image below has a little more brightness and contrast added and is slightly sharpened. |

After seeing your image in Group 5 which is something special I find this image to be more of a record shot. It works well in mono but for me the sky is competing with the building. I would tone it down bit. I would prefer something between your image and Emil's version. |
