I prefer the mono version. The colour to me seems oversaturated. I agree that the image is about lines and textures and the composition is good. You might consider adding a little more contrast to the image. |

Like Chuck I prefer the colour version. You could use content aware crop in Photoshop to overcome the tight crop. I have also tried to sharpen the back flower but I am not happy with the result. |

Well spotted. To me the interest is in the barrow and the textures in the wall. I would crop from the left and right. |

Before answering your question about which I prefer I would like to say I do like your colour version.
If I am unsure which I prefer of two versions of an image I put them into photoshop as layers then reduce the opacity of the top layer by 50% and see if I prefer the result compared to the first two. In this case I do. I have also increased the sharpening. |

I think this is an interesting image which could do well. We are drawn through the image to the arches. On my monitor the foreground appears too dark. I would lighten it. You might also consider taking out the bright light at the top right.
I can't imagine there will be any print competitions in the UK this year. |
