Mike's crop is interesting, but I do love the clouds. I went back to find the image but it isn't in its original state as I shot it in RAW so edited that file. Yes the clouds are not as dark, though it was around dawn so the sky was dark. I added contrast which brought out the details, light AND darks. I found a tighter crop that I had shot but wasn't as interested in at the time. I'll consider editing that tighter one in the future. |

Thanks Theresa, I loved my clouds too. I will play with a crop that highlights the cliff more but will still keep my cloudy shot. |

I think you might try it on your swiss shot, it can really be nice on an image. |

thanks Virginia, I loved the clouds too. Arches is a paradise for photographers. My first time, and I'm in love with it, any time of day or night. Mike's version is interesting and i will play with some other versions for fun. |

Well Mike, I love the large cloudy sky but your crop works well too. I'll play with it again, thanks. |

John, a wonderful travel shot. Massive mountains layered behind that turquoise lake, beautiful. I like the strong diagonal lines that give this energy. I wonder if using a dehaze filter would bring out the layers more, or just tamper with the colors too much.
I'd love to travel here myself, you make a good case for going here. I notice the mountains are pretty bare there, like my Mt Rainier is bare. All our glaciers are melting! |

Really nice job on the blur of the background, which gave you a very shallow depth of field. I don't notice a soft eye, it looks sharp to me but perhaps you worked on it. I've never seen one of these birds, boy they are lovely. And you get to watch them every day there.
I like the fence also, it gives the bird a sense of place. |

I was at Arches in May but never hiked to Double Arches when I was there. I am in the minority, but I like the piece of rock on the left side as it is the other part of the second arch, which has fallen down. Without that left side, you don't have the double arch!! I'm pretty gob-smacked that you could capture a starburst through a CRACK in the rock here. Amazning! A lovely image and now I want to go back and hike in to this. Of course I wanted to go back right away anyway, what a photographer's paradise. Lucky us to have gone this year. Great details on the rocks in shadow. HDR worked for you here. |

I had the same thought as Theresa, thinking that a step or two to the left would fill the frame more with the flowers while still keeping a touch of the poles, but not as many. For me they draw my eye away from the echinacea flowers. I understand you like the complexity and character they add, but maybe just a hint would do the trick. The colors are lovely, and the sky. Your Sony does a terrific job, as did you on this. Someone asked my why I didn't buy a Sony instead of my new Nikon D850 and I said because I had all those Nikon lenses. But then he said I could buy adapters for them. Sigh.
What a great sky too. Lovely |

It's a good thing you shot this BEFORE the smoke choked our state, Theresa! Were you camping up there to get this?
I too like the layers and I too agree that the snow could be overexposed. But I also know that when we make our image really small to post it blows out things that weren't blown out at full size. Perhaps that is happening here?
Since you said sunrise, I expect it could be darker down below as I thought it was afternnon because of the lightness of the mountains. Still keeping the layers but adding more drama, perhaps to the white tops as you said that was what interested you in the photo originally. Lovely image, I hope to get up there one of these years again, its been decades since I've been. |

So tack sharp without your tripod. Sometimes I carry one around and never use it! It's slower and hard to get some angles. Super clear details and interesting to see the layers. I never knew about lava flows down there, learning new things from our group all the time.
When I was in Utah another photographer kept shooting panos on her cell phone. I was pretty jealous when I saw her shots later. Why hadn't I thought about that myself?
Photoshop does do a great job of stitching, and I guess you have to go hiking there again. Hope its not too hot then. |
