71 May 18 Reply Thanks for the feedback, Virginia. I agree about the tree also.I agree that removing the tree on the right would make much sense. Since I was shooting for a chance of being on a calendar for Weyerhauser, a timber company, i kept the tree in. :-) May 30th
71 May 18 Reply Thanks Nancie,
I agree that removing the tree on the right would make much sense. Since I was shooting for a chance of being on a calendar for Weyerhauser, a timber company, i kept the tree in. :-) Now I can go ahead and remove it. It bothered me that it was straight and strongly drawing the eye, but I thought the park owners might like it there. I don't need to keep it though.

71 May 18 Reply I totally agree that its a busy photo with no clear focal point unless its the rocks in the foreground. I think your crop works well. Thanks for the suggestions. I shot so many images that day that I didn't play around with this too much. May 30th
71 May 18 Reply Thanks Theresa, it was a gorgeous day and so lovely to be in nature. And we had the park to ourselves on a closed day with our camera club, so very cool. May 30th
71 May 18 Reply Well Mike, I see you are an expert at shooting on icy ground!!!! I'm not sure I could get back UP if I got on the ground here. Interesting idea though and I'll think about it next time. I think that if I had gotten that low here I would miss the water from that angle, and the reflections. I loved the water and water plants here. May 30th

I like the grasses, but cropping on the right would make the photo pretty skinny.

71 May 18 Comment Lovely lighting, John. I agree that cropping in would bring more attention to the pier. I would crop the top of the sky off after the darker clouds, and crop on the right side, and even take some of the bottom off. I think then we would really see the red reflection in the water and the structure of the pier cutting through all that soft pastel beauty you captured. Your second image is so totally different than the first one. So powerful and strong and so complex that it stops me in my tracks. I have to really look into this to understand what is going on here, very very cool! May 30th
71 May 18 Comment This is striking and what an original Christmas scene to send out. I really like the frosty grass and brrrr, to get that low! I like the fog and misty-ness of this image. I remember your other view, its nice to have options. Good for you to work around this site for other angles.
I don't see the noise you are talking about here.

71 May 18 Comment Well, I love the view from Kerry Park too. But why only composite the moon? You could have bumped Mt Rainier bigger too!!! :-)
You did a great job on your composite, that is something I want to get better at myself. I'm trying to see if I can give any helpful advice here. The sky has lovely colors, but the bright green foreground jumps at me so strongly. I wonder if taking the saturation down on the greenery would help me focus more on the city then sky? I think you could have put the moon anywhere in this photo. It naturally moves from the east where you have it to over and beyond Rainier on the west (right) side.

71 May 18 Comment This is a striking and wonderful image, so dynamic and nostalgic too. Love the red barn, love the tracery of the tree branches covered with snow.
I would definitely crop out the stick on the left side. and What about cropping OUT the hitching post on the right side. I guess I say that because I too would like the tree trunk a bit more to the right side, and you cannot go back and shoot it differently now.

71 May 18 Comment This is a story photo for sure. Great details in the grass and a fun shot. I do see a line across the trees on the left side. Are those power lines? I would probably remove them as they don't add to the image and don't look like they are organic to the picture.
Beautiful skies and what great weather you had on the coast, which isn't always the case.

71 May 18 Comment I would not have thought about softening either. I did think cropping in a bit on both ends would focus on the light streaks more. I love skies like this and I think they are popular with other people too. I would have thought adding contrast would work to bring things out.
In Raw you can go to dehaze button, does that work here to make the streaks stronger?
