John, thanks, I will go to the original image and see if I can correct the brightness of the bushes. I didn't notice that on my master photo of this so I appreciate that you called my attention to it. It definitely needs to be fixed somehow. |

You all saw the bushes blown out! I didn't see that so perhaps my original file looks good and this small version goes awry. Or maybe it is blown out too. I'll check on that and see if I can fix the problem. If I can figure out how to do that. |

Looking at this version I can see that the bushes are definitely blown out. I'll see if that can be fixed on my master file. Thanks. |

I can see that the bushes look blown out in this image, I'll check my larger file and see if it looks that way there. And see if I can correct that somehow. Thanks Mike |

I think the watercolor is rich and interesting. I was a watercolor painter for 37 years so love the look.
I do think the building on the left fights for focus with the gorgeous bridge and reflections.
The red lanterns draw my eye away from the water reflections of the bridge, which I want to be the star of the photo.
When I first saw this I thought it might be good in black and white to balance the bright red and black and white on the left side with the gorgeous soft pastel colors on the right side of the photo. I don't see a clear place to crop though except maybe right before those red lights. Keeping the soft pastel watecolor separate from the strong linear lines of the window. So much to love in this picture. some really beautiful parts to it. |

This looks like a great subject for a Diebenkorn (sp?) painting. Nicely processed to cut through haze and airplane glass. I love looking out airplane windows too.
I agree a great photo wants a focal point. |

Great colors. So many Southwest shots from you all this month!! I'm headed to Moab in May, so I can get some southwest shots myself.
I think the Cacti are your interest in this photo. The large one and the smaller ones to the right.
I would like much less of that blue sky, it's not a focal point and draws my attention away from the interesting things in your photo, the cacti and mountains.
I agree with Virginia that I would like the large cactus on the left more, so a crop would do the trick. Seeing the whole cactus would be ideal but if you don't have it perhaps cropping more on the bottom would make it look less like an accident and more intentional. It would also draw my eye to the yellow blooming cacti on the right side, in a good way.
So, crop the top, the left and the bottom. Ruthless.

Great details on your shot, and rich colors too. I like seeing the geology of the layers on the mountain.
What is a "hanging highway"? Never heard that term before.
for me the focus is on the striations of the cliff, the diagonal line that is centered in this photo. Maybe some slight vignetting would focus us in on your roadway?
Or, making this a square or a verticle so we see what you want us to see: a hanging roadway and a ton of vertical cliff above it. |

This is amazing that its so sharp, hand held. I like Virginia's sky treatment, no adding of elements, just intensifying what the camera already captured. Lovely colors, special moment with thousands of birds in flight at once.
Thanks for explaining your "purist" background for us, and good luck on your entries. |
